Question Lightning or Supercrew

I really want to buy a truck.

Here is the problem.

I don't really have the option of putting it away because I live in Canada and don't have another vehicle to toy around with for the winter.

Right now my mind is set between a Screw Lariat or a Lightning.

Anyone care to provide insite into which way they think would be best?

Thanks in advance.

Eric

Take $1000 and buy a beater for the winter, and then go buy an L. Would probably be cheaper than a SCrew Lariat anyway with the prices that L's are going for now.

If you're deciding between the SCrew and Lightning, why not an '02-'03 Harely?

I was thinking of the Harley but my problem is that model I like is 2002, and it's still a little out of my price range ATM.

Good beaters are hard to come by because they have emissions tests now in Ontario. =/

Good ideas though.

Will have to do some research.

Any other opinions?

well if you live in canada im guessin it snows a good portion of the time? L's dont like snow; i live in texas so my L being a daily driver is no problem at all, our winter consists of some wind and temps dropping into the 50's. the harley sounds like a good idea, but its 2wd as well, need to make sure that wont be a problem for ya. best bet is probably go with a $1k beater, im sure you could find an emission legal one, or give the emission guy a little extra $$$ to overlook a thing or two on it (here in san antonio thats very common and easy to d o) , and then get an L. good luck with whatever you decide

two words for you, SNOW TIRES!!!!

Slap a set on your L and you won't have any problems in the snow.

Hey RTKILLA, good idea, but if my truck becomes as low as yours is, it will be a plow with the snow we get here. I like 20 minutes from Niagara Falls. Think Buffalo snow. =/

Something to think about though.

I live in Canada (Ontario) and I actually bought my Lightning as my winter/dailydriver. I have since sold my sports car but thats another story. Anyway I drive it all year round and if you use your head it is no problem even in the worst of winter days with a good set of winter tires and rims. Hell my truck is even modded and I run mid 12's in the 1/4 and dont de-mod it in the winter.

Keep in mind you really have to use your head and never.. I mean NEVER get into the gas even if there is no snow on the ground. I have a friend who came to me asking how it was in the winter. I gave him my advice.. he bought one and 1 month later crashed it (int he winter time) and put 14 thousand dollars worth of damage on it. 2 months later he smashed it again but this time it was a total loss.

So if you get my point here.. if you do not have self control then dont do it. If you do then it is really a good truck in th winter.

Goodluck

Self control I have. It's the fact that there isn't much room and I am usually the DD when we go out.

More things to consider.

He said it right. I drive my L in the winter w/ Dunlop M-3's on stock rims in New England. Use your head when it's snowing, but I've never been stuck! L is the first truck I've had w/out 4x4, and I really don't miss the transfer case at all. (You more than make up for the lack of fun in the snow when it's nice- that's when you want to have fun in a truck)
