Mart Man, My only suggestion would be to get a hold of a straight serial cable (no USB), if you have a serial port on your computer. That's what I had to use, the USB thing didn't work for me.

EXACTLY

Radio Shack part# 26-117B

...and then depending on if your computer has a male or female serial port then you might need an adapter to change that. That works for me...good luck

Mart,

just so I know exactly what you've got do this...

first, when you hooked your cable up the first time did XP install a driver for it? try just hooking the cable up (no predator), and make sure you have the driver installed for it. if it came with a cd use the driver on that. Check to see if it's installed like this...

you should be able to right click on 'my computer' then 'properties', go to 'hardware' tab, then 'device manager'...then click the '+' next to 'Ports (COM & LPT). With your cable hooked up to your computer (still no predator) you should have something like 'ATEN USB to Serial Cable' in there along with whatever is there normally (I have two COM ports in there normally). (it might not say ATEN, I think that's just the brand of cable I have)

If you have that, then you want to set that BAUD rate to 57600. Mine comes up as COM port 3 (it'll say what port it is right next to 'ATEN USB Serial Cable (COM3)...that's exaclty what mine says in device manager)

then in the software use whatever COM port your cable is set to...hopefully that'll get it for you.

If your computer tries to install another driver for the predator when you hook that up *after you install the driver for the cable*, then that's odd, because my computer never did anything like that...

let me know how this goes

I was the exact opposite, the regular serial cable wouldn't work for me, but once I got the USB cable it worked great

Hey Dennis: Thanks so much for your help. I feel like a jacka$$, sort of. My cable came with software and I threw it away with the package. Turns out, that the software was on a 3.5" floppy, and I don't have a 3.5" drive on my new computer. Seems that everyone's gone to CD for software. I just bought a new Dell Dimensions 8300 Desktop loaded to the gills, but no 3.5. I'll try hooking the cable up without the Predator and see what happens. Otherwise, I guess I'll be forking out the dough for a straight serial cable. I will at least look to see if I have a serial port before I do.

Or you can see if the company has a website. Most companies have where you can download drivers directly off the site.

BTW did you get the USB/Serial cable from Johnny? If so the one I got came with a 3.5" CD. If you did get the same one I have or maybe this will work for your cable regardless...here's the link to their drivers for the USB to Serial cable:

http://www.majestron.com/sales/drivers.htm

Good luck

I think I will have my problem solved. I found the 3.5" floppy in the package the cable came in (had to dig through the trash). Took the 3.5" to work with a blank CD and found a computer with both 3.5" and CD burner. Copied everything from the 3.5" to the CD. Now when I get home, I'll just use the CD to download the drivers. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly. I'll know when I get home.

Driver no worky. This really sucks. I don't know what to do except try a srtaight serial cable and hope. I'll have to go out tomorrow and buy one. This is getting expensive. The Got damn serial to USB cable was like $41 or $47 bucks from Radio Shack. My wife threw the receipt away so I can't even return it. Ohh well.

Have you tried going through the company's website for the driver? or when windows auto detects it, do a search for the driver and direct it to the cd-rom?

sorry to hear it's not working man

WOW this really sucks monkey *** Mart Man,
sorry to hear about all the B/S hassels to do this
BTW
Screw that, go back to radio shack and return it anyway
"reciept or not".

Now as for the WASP, don't panic you MAYBE
MAY NOT need any adjustment at all, and if you do it should be minor, no reason you can't simply richen it up a tad yourself. THATS WHAT A PREDATOR IS ALL ABOUT.
If your worried, pull a degree of timing, add a tiny bit of fuel,
AND HAVE SAFE FUN until you figure this out

You said you had a Dell right? Their tech support is supposed to be top notch if you said your serial port isn't working...just another suggestion.
