lightnings that run 170 mph?

hey guys.

I went out last night to Tiki Bobs and ran into my buddy that purchased a L about a month ago. Some of you have seen that L with the former plates that said "charged". Being that ive worked on a few lightnings in my time, I didnt know what to say to my buddy when he told my he got his Hi 12 sec truck to top out at 170. I just had to turn to my girl and say he is full of S**T! Nice guy but who is he kidding?

As the night went by...he found out that our project L...(WHAT VPR) was back on the road with a little more than just bolt ons. He said he wants to run this Lightning ( i know you guys have kept up w/ the battle against superfords but this guy has no business climbing in the ring.) I am friends with all 3 L owners so no disrespect but this guy better take out a loan more than the value of L to hang with those guys....

Later,

Ralph

P.S. I want thank some of my friends in participating in project superfords....Big Boola ( fordtek), for supplying his shop for the jdm/ kb transplant, Alf ( owner/ driver of this beast) for supplying the busted *** L....an to Superfords (pimp juice haynie ) for some tech advice and s**t talking. J/k... cant wait to see these to great trucks go heads up. I had a blast taking part in both projects!

Running High 12's doesn't really mean much when your talking about high speeds.

I highly doubt he's making that much power but more then anything else the rear end gear and the tranny would have the most to do with it.

Ruslow would know for sure if its possible.

I know I've had my truck into the low 160's on the digital gauge, but who knows how accurate that is. And I still got the stock 3.55 and my trucks lucky to run high 11's when its prepped for drag.

it can be done but there would be a gear change involved.I can cruise at almost that but I run 3.27 gears.to get that kind of et you would need 3.55 min and that would limit your top.Plus if you did not due any areo mods forget it!!period.truck would be way to lite and might take off.Stan

I think he is smokin crack.
Were in the hell can he drive that fast? I had a 99 S351 up to 150 on 64 west and was running out of road fast. It should make about 440 at the rear wheels and its a lot lighter than a Lightning. The Saleen also had big Alcon brakes.
It would take a good distance to stop a 4700 lb truck and get it up to that speed.
I think he is puffing hard on the pipe.
If anyone knows if you can drive that fast in a Lightning it is Superfords. We need to ask him??????

during closed-road circuit testing I got my ROUSH lowered truck to 152mph, only a CAI and long-tubes on the truck. I don't remember how many miles it took to hit that though. I've got 3.55 gears.

guys, I know the guy too. he has a tendency to "exagerate".

the truck is formerly f150 member "Audio18".

the truck has the basic bolts ons, chip/pulley, etc.

it is a high twelve second truck if I remember correctly.

but here is my question.

our speedometers only read to 140.

even if it was possible, how would he know he was going 170?

BTW, I've buried the speedo needle on my truck on many occasions, but that doesn't mean I was going 170!

just my .02

later,
chris
