Aftermarket Head Gasket? and install question.

Can not find out exactly where the oil is leaking from but my closets guess is the passenger side head gasket. So I am going to change the head gasket.

Couple of questions:
1. Is there any aftermarket head gaskets that are better than stock Ford?
2. Should I change the head bolts and what kind?
3. If I do the above to the passenger side, do I have to do it to the drivers side?
4. This is my first time doing this, does anybody have a How To and any torque specs for the bolts?

Thanks all for the help.

stock ford gaskets are fine, there is an updated 4 layer multisteel gasket with a different sealing pattern to take care of your oil leak.

if you are going to take the heads off, you might as well install studs while you are at it, either that or you'll have to buy another set of stock torque to yield bolts.

if/when the driver side leaks, it is generally under the timing cover and thus stays internal.

the leak at the rear is because the higher pressure oil port for lubricating the camshaft is at the rear of the head and fairly close to the edge of the gasket.

the driver side head has the oil pressure port on the other end.

as for torque specs, you first need to decide which fasteners you are going to use.

good luck.

later,
chris

ARP makes the best fasteners that I know of.

I'll see if I can find you the part numbers for the gaskets.
