Predator FYI

Here's a good FYI on the predator, I'll give you a little background story first...

Well I was all excited to go to Qualcomm on friday and test out my new Nitto's and get them ready for Carlsbad on Sunday in great hopes on getting that 12 second club sitcker put on, but then my bubble burst...here's the story-

I'm buying a 6# lower and new tune from PSP, so I need to get my original factory tune to him so he can build me a new tune, I've never had the predatory hooked up to my computer before so I spent the better part of friday trying to figure out how to use COM ports...not fun. I ended up having to go buy another cable, this time a USB to COM post adapter and it worked beautifuly!!!

But...in the process of two straight days of screwing with the predator I erased my current tune off of my truck and out of the predator...not good. So now I'm running a 4# lower with no custom tune...ugh. So needless to say I couldn't go to the races and I cant even hit the gas without worrying myself...

basicly the FYI is, if you're going to install any other tune onto your truck, you have to save you custom tune into the predator by going to 'Read Tune', that will save the tune that is currently in you truck onto the predator. If you don't do that, the custom tune that is in your truck will be erased and you'll be screwed...just like me!!

Been there...done that I had to email JL and tell him that I accidently deleted my tune. Thankfully he sent me my file the next day. Only I had the same problem with getting it connected to my computer. I had to go out and buy an AC adapter and had to find the correct end to fit the predator and then get the right cable to connect to my computer (total of 4 trips to radio shack). Then I found all the information I needed after I had already found out the hard way...thanks to James' (RWTD) instructions on his website
So needless to say I now have a backup of my stock program and my custom tune saved on my computer incase anything happens...
BTW how did you get the USB to work with your COM ports?

Well with the money I saved buying the JLP predator combo (pulley, plugs, and tune) I still saved money after buying the stuff myself

LOL I'm just messin with you though both SV's are awesome people to deal with. Just glad you ended up getting everything to work and got your tune back on your truck

So is the cable that the instructions specify to use (Radioshack pn whatever) the wrong one to use? I can't get mine to transfer into the computer and i tried it on a friend's computer too with no luck. I thought the problem was in the computer, maybe i have the wrong cable.

The cable in the instructions is the right cable, but if you're like me and have never used your COM ports, then your computer's COM ports might not be set up correctly, working properly, etc...I've never used a COM port before...

I tried everything to get it to work with the COM port, but I eventually (after trying a friends computer also) gave up and went back to the electronics store and got one of these...

(I didn't get the extra plug that's in that picture though)...

once I installed that, it becomes COM port 3 and then everything worked perfectly!!!
