Sound increase w/Magnaflow midpipes?

I have a big, quiet Magnaflow muffler. Thinking of getting the new Magnaflow midpipes.

My understanding is that changes is cats makes way more difference in sound than changes in mufflers. Can anyone comment on the increase in volume/tone/sound quality from the Magnaflow midpipes?

Thanks

Not quite sure what the "magnaflow midpipe" setup is?

I have kooks headers w/jdm gear on my truck, which consists of dual-mangaflow mufflers, 2 carsound high-flow cats and appropriate custom piping.

It did go from 4 -> 2 cats, which opened up the exhaust tone quite a bit.

I have heard them, and they are quite a bit louder. I have a set sitting in my garage just waiting to be installed.

As a side note, there is a deal on them over at NLOC: http://www.nloc.net/forum/showthread...threadid=66469

$299. You won't find a better price anywhere.

Tim, you should come out to one of our local meetings sometime, we usually meet about once a month or so. http://www.socalloc.com

I have the JDM magnaflow cat back and I recently had the 4 to 2 (Magnaflow) cat conversion done and it is louder. For me anyway, it's too loud now to be streetable, at the strip it's wonderful. I can't imagine how some of the other guys here handle the straight pipes.

After some time one gets used to it...

In fact, I got so used to the sound it seems pretty tame.....might do some cats in the future....

How does the magnaflow sound compare to bassani? I ask because i have only heard the bassani and thought that it might be similiar because of the "crossover" pipes ....

blowntruck,

There are hair cells in you ear that sense noise vibrations, once subjected to larger or constant amounts, they actually break off (i.e. hearing loss) So I hope you got use to the sound and not ...well,

I also have a set sitting in my garage awaiting installation this week. Install looks to be a little more of a P.I.T.A. than I want to deal with. You need to undo the catback (which is hard enough to get loose) then screw around with the drivers side heat shield to get the left pipe off.

A local shop is doing them for me sometime soon. I'll get some sound clips ASAP for everyone. Can't wait to hear 'em!

I should have been more clear. What I am looking for is the difference in sound when the ONLY thing that is changed is the midpipes. I have no doubt that changing to a Magnaflow catback at the same time will produce a very loud exhaust.

My big, fat Magnaflow muffler is quiet as can be. I'd kinda like to keep it that way, with perhaps just a bit more ***** at idle -- and a crisper sound at WOT. The big Magnaflow sounds like crap at WOT -- a real airy sound, like a 1970s American big family car (you know, like the cop cars used to sound like before they went to the new Crown Vics).

I'd like to keep the sound levels sane for stealth reasons. Most of my 0-60 blasts come on crowded L.A. 35 MPH streets.

Not that I ever consider doing the same thing in Manhattan.

I went from a Magnaflow only, to a "mid pipe" setup. Removed the factory cats, and put 2 CarSound (MagnaFlow) hi-flow cats in place. The sound at idle is MUCH nicer - deep, throaty burble. Cruising around town, there's a little more drone, but still, a GREAT V8 rumble (I find I keep it out of O/D, just for the sound).

On a WOT blast, it's about 2x as loud as the Magnaflow muffler only! But it sounds so perfect, the only thing I would ever do in the future is LTs if they come down to under $500...

Well worth the $$ just for the sound factor. Just remember, you may lose some torque in the process... I believe my lower TQ #'s are due to a less restrictive exhaust.

I don't know Max...I made 411/528 with Longtubes,2 high flow cats, and the little bullet thingy's that I currently have on the truck. The only way it could get more free flowing for me would be without the 2 high flows and open exhaust.I do agree it is quite possible to lose a little torque with free flowing exhaust, but that might not be the issue entirely.
