Spare Tire = Good or Bad

i know if I get a flat, this is a no brainer... lol

anyway, im talking about at the track... i know the less weight, the better... but since I dont have slicks and Im relying on my traction bars and F1s.... is this extra weight actually a good thing because of it being in the rear?? or should I dump it and lose about 35lbs or whatever it weighs???

I have never heard a compelling argument for leaving weight on -- no matter where it is.

I removed mine the other day. I noticed when you take the weight of the tire of the truck it raised the rear 1/4".

I keep mine off, and just throw it in the bed for long trips, I keep a can of tire sealer/inflator just in case, I've never had to use it but hopefully if I was caught without my spare it would inflate and seal the tire long enough to get to a garage or home.

I got a flat about 1 month ago when i turned a corner at raleys to sharp and puntured my sidewall.. Well i drove it home leaking, took off the spare for the first time and wow the thing weighs about 60 lbs. It was easily 1 and a half times the weight of my stock rim. I would say dump it and get a 5th rim.

I took my Hitch off forever, I didn't buy it to tow with.
Usually take spare off when racing (not always)

But when I went for my 11, we pulled out all the tricks,
(or should I say The Captain and Vinnie did)
They pulled my spare, they took the pass seat out (first time)
took the jack out, empty'd the tool box/storage compartment behind the seats, and even took the top radiator cover off.
I'm sure between all that it was at least 200lbs off.
(maybe more)
Ran me best time yet 11.81 so I'm glad I did it

Weight reduction can def gain you 1/10 - 2/10ths better Et's,

THANKS Captain + V

BTW
THERE IS NO DOUBT I had at least 50-70 lbs of schitt just in my
storage compartments, Sockets, a couple of 1/2 drive Breaker Bars, some other rachets and sockets, I carry a portable Air Compressor, tire plugs, 2 cans of fix a flat, extra upper pulley,
winter stuff, and a ton of other crap...........
Next time I may pull my bed Mat too, thats at least 40-60 lbs alone.

Try it, you got nothing to loose, and everything to gain

Sorry it was so confusing dudes

If you use the "fix a flat" type thing, when you spray it inside the tires, it gets all over the inside of the rims. This stuff is like cement when it dries, it'll be next to impossible to get off the inside of the rims. It will also unbalance it some.. I personally wouldn't use it, but hey, if you don't mind it, it's your truck :P

Ah, haha, I think you just hit the quote button on the wrong post

I never knew that about fix a flat, are there any tire sealers that dont do that. I was thinking about taking off my hitch and spare.

Many tire shops will also get pissed if you don't tell them that it has fix a flat in it. When the tire comes off that stuff tends to make a mess. Some of the older stuff was actually flamable.

In a jam it works but it is nasty stuff.

If you think that spare is heavy, you should also drop your hitch and bumber and go with a nice urethane roll pan. It would be an easy 150lb combined weight drop. The cheapest HP in the world is poundage!! But don't get to addicted, or the next thing you will be doing is dumping your sweetie after you find out much she really weighs and jumping out at the staging lights to take a leak and so-on......not like I would know from experience or anything..right?
