first time at the track...Please advise

hello all,
well last night was the first time to the track in my 2004L. It has about 1300 miles on it, here are my times. I figured it would be better than this. What does everyone think?

run 1

reaction: .612
I1 2.142
I2 6.000
I3 9.143
MPH I3 79.985
I4 11.789
E.T. 14.171
MPH 97.910

run 2

reaction: 1.019
I1 2.106
I2 5.955
I3 9.103
MPH I3 78.832
I4 11.758
E.T. 14.145
MPH 97.898

run 3

reaction: .667
I1 2.114
I2 5.961
I3 9.101
MPH I3 79.160
I4 11.742
E.T. 14.116
MPH 98.418

So what do i need to do to get in the 13's. Besides loose some weight. I weigh about 280,this was with the spare and jack and everything. Anf half a tank of gas. On stock f1's with no mods.

Couple of things:

1) How much time did you allow between runs? With our big 330 V8's we need to let them cool down for at least 45 mins.

2) You're in Phoenix, AZ. What altitude are you at, and what was the temp like yesterday when you ran? Anything over 80 and above 1000 ft elevation is going to have a big effect on your times.

3) Your 60' times of 2.1 aren't awful, but they aren't great. Some members have been able to cut 1.8 times by lowering their rear tire pressure to 25 psi and doing extended 10 sec burnouts to heat the F1's up. On the third yellow light, are you just flooring the gas, or are you feathering the throttle, then leaning into it all the way after the tires hook up?

4) Your truck has 1300 miles on it. Have you done your first oil change yet? The first oil in any engine will have some metal pieces still in it from the factory. If you haven't done it yet, change your oil, as the break-in oil may not be in the best shape.

I drive a stock 2000L, and with 2.0 60' times, I've run 2 13.6s and 2 13.7s this season in mid 50 weather. Plus my truck has the crappy 3.55 gears. You should easily be running 13.4 or faster! Keep at it!

Not bad for the first time. My only time I did it in 13.97 at similiar trap speed. The track temp was 118 degrees according to the techs. As far as leaving the line, the time doesn't start until you brake the beam. So don't worry about the reaction times yet. You can be concerned about that when you are going head to head with your buddy.

Good luck and lower the air pressure in the rears and remember that your truck is still really new, and don't do much of a burnout. The F1's turn to mush if you smoke them in the water box. Most guys say just drive around the box and maybe heat them up a little with a very short burnout.

I have an 03 and just ran mine for the first time last weekend. My 60 foots were all 2.3 something (yes I know that sucks), but my best 1/4 was 14.15. I didnt allow the truck to cool down at all, which I knew as a mistake. Im sure once I let it cool down and get a good launch Ill be around 13.7 Bone Stock!!

Cooling it down is a big deal as far as Ive heard, there was another guy at the track I ran with that had a 02 with a diablo sport chip and exhaust and his best run that night was a 14.2....was really humid.

Also all my crosses were at 99.8 - 100.5 MPH

It was about 85 out,and no i didnt let it cool down. It took me 30 minutes to get there, as soon as i got there i lined up and about 5 minutes later ran my first pass. The other two were right after the first, i just got back in line. Ive been stalling it to about 1000RPM then when the third yellow is lit i hammer it. Seems to work ok, i get a lil spin but then it catches. I may lower my tire pressure, do the airbox mod, maybe try adjusting my boost actuator and see how that goes. i got a week until the next time the track opens up. thanks everyone for your input.

Your times and speeds sounds just about dead on for the conditions.

Mine were very very similar on my first outting when bone stock (a 84 deg day).

BTW: I dropped 0.1ET and gained 1.5 mph on that same day from dropping in a K&N and cutting 2 large holes in the bottom of the air box.

Your right there AZ L, the Trucks got power, you had a great time,
no one lost an eye, and you got to beat the crap out of it legally.
Cant ask for much more than that

I grrnty you 3/10th's (if not more) if you:

Let it cool down for at least 45 minutes to an hour
Lower the Rear Tires to @25lbs (I drive the streets 24/7 like that)
Helps to Up the Front pressure to @ 45 Lbs too
GO AROUND Water
YES do a Burnout "low RPM" fairly long, no need to go over 3K
Launch like you are (I launch from a dead idle then stap it WOT)
(If you really want to see ET, remove Pass Seat, Hitch, + Spare)
You'll cut a 1.9 / 2.0 and run a 13.6 - 13.9 NO PROB'S

But schitt a 14.1 will still Whoop a$$ on most anything you meet up with on the local streets, so CONGRATS AND HAVE FUN
