FTVB slams at low speed

I just installed the FTVB and i know its suppose to chirp em' in second, but even at a slow acceleration it slams into gear. I guess it will just take some getting used to. I love the shifts at WOT but i dont like the hard shifts just cruisin'. O well just seeing if it was an install F-up, but everythings tourqed to specs.
All Feedback Welcomed
Thanks
Mike

Do you have a chip? If so, torque reduction is turned off or line pressure is bumped up.

I have the same issue, which I'm getting addressed soon.

Hope that helps.

all my shift settings are still STOCK.

I chirp the tires going into 2nd EVERY SINGLE TIME.
I can be WOT, which leaves a few hundred feet of black marks
or cruising at 15 MPH.

if you are considering larger rims 20's, that will soften the coffee spilling all over the place 1-2 shift.

other than that, welcome to the world of FACTORY TECH VALVE BODY, the most noticable mod you can do to your truck.

Cool, I just ordered one from Tommy at Outrageous Performance with the 4X4 pan kit for my stock 2000 L. I can't wait until it comes in!

Not very hard to install. Just have an inch lbs torque wrench available.

There are a lot of write ups on it. Do a search on "Factory Tech" and you'll find more info than you care to look at.

Good luck.

Yes, it wasn't hard at all, but VERY MESSY. I saved the stock pan when I did mine this past weekend which accounts for some of the mess.

Mine shifts great at low rpm's. Just a little firmer than stock up to about 1/3 throttle. At WOT, watch out. Major barkage!

Yup.

That's about right for the FTVB. Stock ride height in the rear and no traction bars will make you check the rearview mirror after most non-WOT shifts to make sure your rear axle isn't bouncing down the road.

Drop shackles tame it a bit, traction bars (lift bars) make it very civil.

At WOT, the thing is DA BOMB.

At part-throttle, it's weirdly unpredictable and occasionally WAAAAY too harsh.

If you are unfortunate enough to load up the accumulator at WOT and, for some reason, lift soon before the shift, you're in for a wild ride for every subsequent shift all the way to overdrive.

It's also the best thing you can do (other than VERY frequent fluid and filter changes - I drop the fluid every 1000 miles) to keep your tranny in one piece, especially with mods.

Despite its "quirkiness", I would VERY STRONGLY recommend this mod to ANY Lightning owner. Almost a must, especially with power-adding mods. Plus, the WOT 1-2 tire roast is WELL worth the price of admission.

Mike,

If you bought it from me, give me a call and I'll take care of it.

I had my FTVB in before the other mods and even at low speeds and easy on the gas, it shifted hard. But I thought that was normal.

If I understand it right, the FTVB should actually save on your transmission. The clutches don't slip as long, so the tranmission runs cooler. So the FTVB does not make it necessary for you to change fluid more often.

To Silver's point though, I think he's saying that he does it due to the other mods.

I may just be used to it...but mine does kick some during stop n go traffic...nothing I didnt expect though. I had added line pressure with one of my older chips before I switched to the FTVB... and I can tell you that the VB is less violent for sure. You learn to play the pedal in heavy traffic different after a while... you can keep it from banging into 2nd with some pedal feathering.

Tim(Chikenears) i think i'll just have to get used to it, for a while there i wasnt going to send my core back incase i wanted to put it back. I love the WOT shifts so i guess ill learn to like the low rpm shifts.
By the way Tim you have great service like ive always heard, my FTVB arrived the day you said it would. I'll be ordering a bedrug and idler pulley kit from you soon.
Thanks
Mike
