Been Hearing 'Tings' about NHRA and the 11.99 cage rule

Lot of talk lately about NHRA going 11.40 w/ a Belted Radial type tire (Nittos or BFG, F1s, NOT E.T Streets or QTPs) before requiring a cage on newer vehicles like the Cobra and Lightning.

Anybody else hearing this??

when you say cage, do you actually mean a Roll Bar. I thought the cages are required for the even quicker vehicles

VINNIE,

I hope you are right.....it makes sense, even to include radial slicks.

The tires we run on are much better than what was available when the roll bar rule was introduced. It would make sense to require a speed rated tire in the front that would have wear limitations.

They go much faster on motorcycles with no protection.

For us noobs, can someone tell me what the current rule on cages and roll bars is?

Actually, what's the rule on helmets also?

And actually, are there any other special rules for production cars that I should know about when I hit the track for the first time this summer?

ILLINI-SVT here is a great site for noobs:
http://www.chasinracin.com/
Use the track locator to find out what is available.
Most of the tracks have a website. The regulations and any other quirky rules will be laid out not to mention, dates and times etc...

Once you zero in on a track/date casually post here when you are going. Maybe a non-noob will pipe up that they are going, you meet and secretly do everything they do right up to the last yellow light on the tree.

Then no one knows you was a noob.
If they call you a noob, 'deny, deny, deny'.

This is the 2004 rules. I don't think the Gen3s will be out for some time certainly not 2004.

You wonder how the '03 & '04 Cobra's are getting by.

I know at the track rules are bent, broken and flat out ignored unless somebody complains.

Consider this, if you are going to run 11.99 or better a cage helps you stay alive if something goes wrong. In the long run it is cheap insurance.

That's why I'm having this done:
