New Motor = 500+ RWHP club on pump gas!
New Motor = 500+ RWHP club on pump gas!
Hi guys! well, I took the truck to the dyno today to test out the new motor.
my previous best was approximately 430HP/550TQ .
this was on my PSP race program with 100 octane fuel.
my previous best using a street tune and 93 octane was 417HP/537TQ.
well today I went down to see randy haywood at www.haywoodspeed.com in Raleigh N.C. to get some baseline numbers and air/fuel readings on the new motor.
here are the new numbers on street program & 93 octane:
510 RWHP & 546 FT-LBS-TQ
NOTE: these numbers are WITHOUT ANY additional tuning. I'm running the same PSP chip that I've been running for a year now. I just switched down to my "winter" or "safest" tune when I installed the new motor since this program has the least timing on my flip chip. the air fuel came out quite nicely, but I think I may be either running out of injector, or pegging the MAF, as things start getting a little lean at/above 5000rpms.
again, the previous best numbers were taken from a run with race gas on my race program. these new numbers are from a mild street program with only 93 octane!
for those who haven't followed the buildup. the 80-90HP difference can be attributed to extrude hone ported heads, crower cams, apten eaton.
also, I installed a P.I. torque converter at the time of the engine install, so I'm not sure how that may or may not effect the numbers.
I had hoped to get some custom tuning done today to try for even better numbers, but unfortunately, I got a VERY late start and there simply wasn't time to do anything besides get the base numbers and the air/fuel readings. that's ok because I didn't have time to finish up the NX install anyway, so I'll be going back soon for some more dyno time.
thanks to Randy for staying late on a Saturday night even though it was my fault for arriving some 5-6 HOURS late!
also it was nice to meet Brian Kornegay (03WHITELIGHTNIN), a local N.C. guy who came by with his L to watch mine run.
so overall, I'm pretty pleased with the numbers. I was looking for between 500-550rwhp. and I achieved that. I think that with a little tweeking, that we can get noticeably more power from this combo. and that's still BEFORE I spray the nitrous!.
we'll see soon enough.
later,
chris

I can't wait to see that thing in person or watch a video or something. Are you the first sonic blue with 500 RWHP?

You still running the stock injectors Chris? Did the a/f start leaning out around 4700 rpm's?
alot of questions I know....lol
My questions are because I pulled 483/589 on my street tune and I believe my stock injectors can't provide the fuel I need above 4700, where my truck goes lean. Even though some charts say 42lbers are suppose to support up to 600hp.
Enough of this............

Congrats on bringing that beautiful motor to life
No doubt the sweetest Sonic Blue in the good ole USA
And thank you for taking the time to take pics and post them during the build process
