Calling 01XLT...Hello Burt...

Hey Burt...

Any problems engine wise with your 03.

I found a new 03 Dark Shadow Grey.

I called SVT, it was built in April of 03.

I'm worried that it sitting on the lot for that long may not be good for the engine...

How was yours?

Anyone else reading this thread, is it bad for an engine to sit that long?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think there would be a problem.

Kobiashi,

I would say no there is no problem with a vehicle sitting and more then likely it has been started and moved around a bit anyway. Mine only has 560 miles on it because of the FREAKING weather…

However, I took advice from an expert and am following this recommendation as far as beginning maintenance. I changed the oil and filter last weekend, but was recommended to change it at 500, 1,000 and 1,500 miles. Is it ****? Maybe, but it is very cheap insurance and that is how I am with any of my vehicles. After the 1,500 I will continue with my regular 3,000 mile oil and filter changes.

I would also recommend you to change the fuel filter at the first oil change of 500 miles. Again my thinking is even though the truck may have been started and moved around a bit it still had the same fuel in it since “my” build date of 6/25/03 and I bought it on 2/2/04.

Do not get on it, no WOT until at least 1,000 miles. No matter what anybody says these motors do NOT come from the factory “broke in” and thus it takes some time for the rings to seat as well as other parts to wear in a bit before WOT. Talk to any engine builder and they will tell you that they would never build a new motor, put it in a vehicle and then take it WOT…

Now I am not saying it takes 1,000 miles, but again this comes from a highly regarded expert and one that I trust…

Thanks Burt -

Although this may be academic as they were insulted by my offer. (snicker, snicker)

I am the same as you when it comes to breaking in engines.

I have had two Lightnings already, a 2000 and a 2002 (may have a third now...I miss the fun of these trucks). I always changed the oil and filter at 1200, and again at 3000. Then at 5000 I switch to Mobil 1 with the mobil 1 filter. I always change the oil and filter with each chnage. Once on synthetic I change every 5000 (with dino oil I would change every 3000). I put mobil 1 in my Lexus too. It's the best stuff out there in my (and many others opinions).

Thanks again for the quick response....

Stay warm.
