Let's see....
Air distance between Los Angeles to Cinci is 1905...so let's say 2100 driving
L gets 15 MPG highway, that's 140 gallons gas at 2.45 per gallon...so $343 for fuel.
You are like me Burt when it comes to oil changes on new vehicle, 500, 1500, 3000, so two oil changes at EZLube...120 dollars.
Hotels...take about 4 days driving, so three nights...let's say I stay at some cheapo Motel 6 (yuck) 3 nites at 50 per night is 150 dollars.
Food...4 days restaurants...is about 75 x 4 so 300 dollars...
I'd have to pay registration in both Ohio where I bought it and in California where I live....so that's about 1400 bucks...
Let's see, where are we... $2,313.00
to get it here.
OOPS...forgot air fare...let's see, let's say I leave Friday, a quick check of Expedia shows cheapest airfar to Cinci one way is $281.00 on ATA airlines (whoever they are)
So that brings the total to 2598
(god only knows what a cab would cost to get from the airport to the dealership...but we'll write that off to incidental expense...
Ouch.
Invoice on a 2004 L is 28900...there are about 35 Ls at Ford dealers within a 50 mile radius of my house....if I get one at the end of the month I could probably have them bidding for my sale...
That's still more than I want to pay though...26500 for a new 2003 would be nice....

kobiashi,
EZlube, WTF? No way I let some kid touch my L with their greasy little fingers, put some cheap *** watered down oil in and then put the oil filter on loose, IF they even remember to put an oil filter on it…
I do it myself…
What is this 4 days driving? I drove from Texas to New Hampshire non-stop, took like 35 hours or so but was an excellent drive. Never really got tired, it was in my 01 XLT I had. Most comfortable truck I ever had UNTIL I bought the L. Just pulled over now and then to get something to eat a little fresh air and BOOM I was on the road again. That was a few years ago…

Re: EZLube.
There was a kid (maybe 18 or 19) at EZLube who I always take my car to for a number of reasons.
When I got the first L I brought it in there because the carry Mobil1. The kid went ape $hi* when he saw the L. He took extra special care, even invited me down in the pit when I wanted to check out the bolt for the infamous clunk. He alsways does the work himself and takes extra time to make sure everything is right. So, I now have EZLube first on my mind. Granted, the drive from Ohio would not be the EZLube I always use so I would have to think about that....
As for driving all the way in one clip...no way...
too long,
too tired...
accident looking for a place to happen....
and let's face it, the L is not the most comfortable of rides (certainly not compared to my car)
maybe 3 days two nights, but I'm too old for that $h*t

However, here in New Hampshire you can get a Lightning for approx. $28,750 on X-plan...

I don't know how many Lightnings they have left, but as 2/2/04 they had 2 03's and I think 4-5 04's
Not sure what kind of deals they are doing now since spring weather is fast approaching so you might want to call sooner rather then later...

They always have the best prices you can find within basically New england.Im not a big fan of the dealerships service but its the EASIEST place to buy a vehicle.usually you are in and out in 30 minutes to an hour from the time you pick your truck.i know a couple of months ago,the 03s were 27,995. You cannot beat that! im sure in some parts of the country you can but around here the SVT dealers are scarce and the first couple of years (99-02) , most were asking sticker.Good luck

Thank god you sold the gray one before I could convince my wife I needed to be a part of the L community again. I should actually be upset with you because of your post, my wife and I had a heated discussion about trucks(really just Lightnings)
Great deal on a L though. I wish I could have convinced her I needed another L, I was easy to convince. I sure miss my L.
