To Port or not to Port is the ?

I keep reading over and over on how wonderful Porting is for our Eatons. Well I want to get into the action myself. (monkey see monkey do) My only concern is that I already have 2 pound upper and a 4 pound lower installed on my Lightning. I only see an extra 5 pounds of boost

Well anyway would I be somewhat safe by porting and gaining the supposely 2 extra pounds of boost gained by porting... now having 7 pounds giving me a total of 15 pounds on a stock bottom end.

My current mods are:

4 pound lower
2 pound upper
Custom 2 1/2 Dual Boral Exhaust with X-Pipe
Lakewood Traction Bars
Boost Bypass
Air intake kit
Diablo Delta Chip
s/b tb (I just got it today)
Bassanit Headers(I will get next week, My truck is lowered like 3 and 5... so no long tubes for me)

Porting

You should be OK with the porting of your blower. More importantly, why do you want to run a shorty header? They don't do anything for our motors, longtubes are the way to go. They don't hang down lower, they are LONGER. There are lots of lowered L's with longtube headers and no problems with ground clearance. John H

I run a 4# lower, and a 1# upper, which is actually like 2# upper because of the larger lower.....Sounds funny doesn't it....Anyway, according to my autometer lunar, at full throttle in good air, I see the needle just touching the 16# mark...I have had no probs yet....I was considering porting also, but then again, I am also considering selling the truck....

You'll see more than 15#! I am seeing about 15-15.5 with just a 4# lower!

I saw no increase in boost. I saw 14# before in cool weather and 15# in colder weather. I still see 15# and not a bit over. I am awaiting warmer weather though to see if I can still get the 14-15#'s. In hot weather before the port I could only get 13-13 1\2.

I have a 4# lower and 2.80 upper.

As I posted before my results were roughly 1mph faster at the track.

Maybe it's that 2.80 upper hmmm.....

With a 4# lower the last time I got it dynoed with the ported blower I got 14.6 PSI. I am thinking about going with a 6# lower but I know my wife wouldn't be to happy about me replacing my motor when it gets ventilated.

I don't really have an aftermarket boost gauge on my truck but when I went to get a dyno tune the guy let me borrow one to see what my boost was. On all the runs I could see only 13 pounds of boost.

My truck was running too rich on a 6 pound file had to dropped down to a 5 pound file and gained 15rwhp in the switch.

I know my truck could has more on it but the weather that day was really hot. (low to mid 90's)

The best my truck made was 375 rwhp... I think that is low cuz I smoked lots of not so stock L's on the street.

The Tune is the most important thing when it comes to high boost levels I run a 4# lower and a 2.5# upper nad I am seeing 18# every now and again but only running 15 degrees of timing on the street and 20 degree's on the race program with 114 octane fuel and so far no problems but I can tell you I am walking the preverbial tight rope!

Well I just sent my Eaton after all. to get ported.. I remove my eaton today... not really that hard considering I did lots of search on the old posts to see how to do it. my rotors are starting to flalk off in one side. ( About 1/2 to 1 inch )

Can u guys help me? I have to two guestions I need help in answering.

1. How much oil goes in the blower?

2. Which is the best coolant to replace the coolant on my intercooler and what are the ratios. { i was thinking 50 to 50--- water to coolant)

Let me say that my I/C was dirty as hell... all black and oilly. Time to get a kit to stop the oil from going in. And yes it was a pain to get it off. Looks shiny now

My truck only has 37k miles.

A friend of mine has his Lightning lowered 3/5 with JDM long tube headers and full exhaust, nothing hangs below the frame, so long tubes should work on your truck with no problems.

Teamsvt . . .keep us updated on your results! I was thinking about porting my blower this summer on top of my 4# lower and 2# upper. I was planning on switching the upper back to stock though.
