Thumbs down First time at track last night...not good!

Well I finally got around to going to the track las night...its in Qualcomm parking lot in San Diego. Basicly it's a 1/8 mile section of the lot and they set barriers up on friday to make it into a strip (not the best track in the world...thats my excuse and im sticking to it )

so heres the best run, which was also my first run...

60' - 2.374
MPH - 80.64
1/8 - 9.054

my best 60' was 2.304, i could not get the F1's to hook at all! Im guessing its because i dont know how to launch...my mods are 4# lower, FTVB and JLP predator, I thought I would at least break in to 8's. But I'm sure if I got my 60' time down a few tenths, then i would have.

The rest of the night was a 4 - 9.1x's, 2 - 9.2x's, and i wont even mention the rest. my 60's ranged from 2.323 to 2.600...

I couldnt figure out how to launch, first i tried 1/2 throttle and just roasted the tires througth first, ten i tried 1/4 for a second into 1/2, but it shifted into second to early and i had to down shift (felt real stupid!!)...Im gonna buy some Nitto 555r's and hopefully that'll help some.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to launch correctly, because I launch like im on crack

Don't worry about it as it was your first time, and it takes a while to learn how to launch these trucks.

Next time raise the rpms to about 800 rpms, just enough to load the drivetrain. Then ease into the throttle, you will learn how hard you can get into the throttle. Start easy and get more aggresive on each round. Eventually you will find what works best.

The main thing is to have fun, and race in a safe setting.

Practice....Practice...Practice.....It is very difficult getting these trucks out of the hole....It is definitely a matter of feel....It took me a while to get the hang of it, and I have been racing for 15 years....This is what works for me on F1's with no traction devices....Spin the tires through the water box, then I do about a 10 second 2500rpm burnout to clean and heat them....Then as I am pulling to the staging lights, I move left or right a foot or so so that the rear tires will not drive over the same spot that the fronts do, in case the fronts are still wet from the box....I stage, completely at idle....At the third yellow, I hit the gas hard enough to lift the front of the truck, once that happens, it goes to the floor...My results are consistent low 1.8's with 26psi in the F1's....What takes the practice is finding just how hard you can hit that pedal to get the truck moving without spinning the tires....Good luck....

Based on what you said, it sounds like you were racing on an untreated section of parking lot...the equivalent of racing on the street. As they said, work on the launch...but a real low 60' time is gonna be tough unless you go to a real track.

Exactly what mrinaldi said. He does it very consistante (Is That A WORD?) at the track on those F-1's. Me I need hot Hoosiers or Hooters to launch
But don't say you didn't have fun, cuz I know you did! After you get a feel for what your doing, you'll have even MORE FUN!!!
Safe settings and no worries having the 5-0 bust your butt, make for an enjoyable afternoon. Having your favorite cold beverage after, makes it even better

buy some type of traction bar.

lakewoods can be found for under $100.

(I rotate the tires (f1's) once or twice to clean off the road debris, THAT"S IT, no heating of the f1's, I swear they get slippery when you heat them up)

Your have some very good advise, with practice as they said you can get low 1.8's consistently. Take your time, you will get it right.. I use to heat the hell out of my F1's ( contrary to what some people say) stage at an idle and floor it on green, worked for me, if the track is prepped right.... Remember if you go with Nittos your gonna need some traction devices or you could break you drive shaft......... Ok be kool and have fun...............

Thanks for all the advice guys

I definately did have fun! It was a blast! I did get to beat a SS camero and a couple of other cars that mad me pretty happy! then i got lined up against some Full boogy race cars and I had NO chance, buy what the he11, it was a great time! I jsut wanted to break 8's, but hey, thats ok.

Yeah, it is a untreated section of parking lot, one of my friends, who is more knowlegable than me, said my time at a real track would probably drop about .2 or so.

on the28th, im going to go up to carlsbad (actual 1/4 mile track), so hopefully ill do better...im really aiming to get that '12 second' sticker...well see! i might jsut have to port the blower to get it...but thats not so bad is it

I was going to go, but since its untreated I decided not to. I run at the track across the border in Mexicali, but only after an event, the track still has some of the stuff they use to treat it. My best has been a 7.92 with a 1.77 '60 with a 6# lower and on Nittos.

Exactly...............
Thats bull **** about heating street tires don't help,
Roasted F-1's are like liquid glue
My first run was "floor it from a dead idle"
and to this day, it's thee only way I have ever Launched
got a best of 1.8's on F-1's, 99% 1.9's, and (1) 2.0 worse ever to date.

On Slicks of course it's 1.6's, with a high 1.7 worse ever

DID YOU LOWER THE AIR PRESSURE ???
Thats another B/S it don't help lie
I found @ 25lbs perfect for F-1's, sometimes as low as 22lbs,
I drive the streets 24/7 well under 30lbs

Like Don said, it's all about fun, no one gets their best ET
1st time out, there's lots of little things that will become natural
as time goes on, and you got clops of untapped ET left in it

GLAD YOU HAD FUN, CONGRATS
