Angry HELP!! Big Problem with Blower install

Well I got up early to put the ported Eaton back on the truck. I was putting the upper Plenum back on the supercharger and it cracked Apparently I tightened the bolts too tight and I heard a pop. I looked at the plenum and sure enough there is a crack right between the 2 bolts on the left side. I can't see all the way through but it's pretty bad. I called the Ford dealer and they want $500 for a new one!!. Is there anything I can do short of replacing it? Do any vendors carry them? I guess I learned my lesson about working on the truck with a hang over

Yes it's the upper intake. One side you bolt the TB to and the other bolts to the blower. I just took it off and looked at the inside. There is a hairline crack about an inch long.

Supper Bummer!

Good thing I am not one of them guys who would ask why you wouldn't do a search on that.
There is so much on that subject about sequence of tightening and doing it in steps. Even picutures.

I feel your pain. That is one of worst feelings to feel that as you tighten.
It is like a broken baseball bat in your brain.

I did that same thing a week before vacation. Going over my sand rail and decided to put some fancy transmission side cover stiffners on. Put in longer studds and was torqing it down and had that pop feeling. Scrambled all week long getting parts and replacing the stripped tranny covers.

You might take it somewhere and get it heli arch welded but make sure it doesn't get warped.

Or there is JB Weld.

the problem with ether is it will always be in the back of your mind.

Bite the bullet and do it right as soon as you can.

I've seen them polished on Ebay for under $500!!!

they appear every so often.

Find somone that replaced their blower with a KB or works or Other, and they may have one lying around

That's what I was going to suggest. You can get an Extrude honed upper intake plenum for about $300.00. That's what you want to do. Screw ford parts. I tried to get a supercharger rotor pack from them a few days ago. They told me the supercharger doesn't have any serviceable parts. I would have to buy a new supercharger to get the rotors.

I've got a spare stock upper if you need one.

I paid $135 employee cost.

so I can't imagine full retail or msrp price being anything over $150-$185.

either they quoted the wrong price, looked up the wrong part, or they are just plain crooked.

like others said above, you might just go ahead and call LFP or someone else and upgrade to an extrude hone ported upper.

good luck.

later,
chris

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to see if I can get it welded but like you said, I will keep wondering if it's gonna let go. Chris can you email me with your price? It's jillnpaul1@comcast.net

Thanks
Paul

Wow how appropriate a name for this situation
-->TheRipper<--
J/K Bro, couldn't resist.

Are you using it in the mean time ???
Like everyone is saying, if you didn't crack it all the way through,
(or at least that you can see), put some JB Weld on it and use it
until you buy Chris's or a Ported Upper.
If you are using it, HOW DO YOU LIKE the Ported Eaton ?

Congrats on the Mod,
sorry on the upper
