Fast Air vs Stock box with K & N report
Fast Air vs Stock box with K & N report
I installed the filter from the fast air I bought yesterday. I have not installed the hoses and such, just the filter. There is NO seat of the pants difference.....BUT......With the stock box and brand new K & N the most boost I ever saw on the autometer was 15 lbs. right at the shift. This was at 40-50 degrees. With the big filter that comes with the Fast Air I am getting a full 16 lbs. right before the shift (and this was at 69 degrees outside temp). I can only conclude that the stock box (even with the two 2" hoses bringing air from the bumper) was restricting air into the motor. I assume somewhere around 11 or 12 lbs. of boost you will exceed the air flow capabilities of the stock size filter.

I'm running just a four lb. lower but I have the Apten port mod. I would have never expected to pick up 4 lbs. of boost from the porting. I never saw more than 12lbs. before porting.

Hmmm
I saw the opposite effect sort of. I am not running a ram air on my modded box, nor on the aftermarket kit. It is a strict airbox to airbox comparison. Here is my modded box:
I see around 15# average with this box after the Apten port. This is from weather ranging from 37-60 degrees so far. I installed the JLP airbox and actually saw a little less boost, same day, same weather. There has been nothing seat of the pants thus far. If I still have it by the time I hit the track I will test them head to head.
Oh and remember BOOST is not everything. I saw increased boost with my open airkit on my 2000 truck. It ran .15-.2 tenths slower at the trach compared to my bone stock airbox w/K&N. The actually flow characteristics through the MAF are also very important...boost doesn't necessarily mean power!
