Question New 6lb pulley help

I just installed my new Metco 6 pound pulley that I got from JDM over the winter and it is making a funny squealing sound. I am almost certain that it is coming from this new pulley and it wasn't doing it the other day before I put the new pulley on. I can't see anything that is rubbing. It doesn't feel loose, but I haven't gotten back under there to recheck the torque on the bolts. What do you think it is?

Also, I have an appt. at the Ford dealership tomorrow morning to have them work on something unrelated. SHould I cancel the appt. until I get rid of the squeal?

Whats the squel sound like? Belt? It isnt cavitation from the blower spinning faster is it? MIght be the idlers since they are spinning faster now.

I don' think it is from the blower because the squeal is coming from the bottom of the engine, not anywhere near the supercharger. The squeal does not sound like your traditional belt squeal. This sound is not as high pitched. I am 90% positive that it is coming from the new pulley. I'd hate to draw attention to it tomorrow at the dealer so they annotate my service history that I have an aftermarket pulley and screw me for the rest of my warranty.

When I took my truck in for warranty work on the intercooler, the first thing they did was measure the lower pulley. I asked them what they were doing and this is what they told me: Ford has mandated that the lower pulley must be measured and the PCM must be inspected on any Lightning that comes in for warranty work.

Now I don't know if Ford really mandates that or not but I can tell you first hand that the very first thing they did and I mean the very first thing was measure the lower pulley. As for the PCM I didn't see them inspect it but I wasn't in the shop the whole time either.

Didn't matter to me because my L was stock. So think about what you want to do. Good luck!

It's not rubbing on the lines is it ???

This is a 4lb pulley, and you see how close it is,
a 6 would be closer, for an 8 I think you def got to do some
pulling and tugging to get the needed clearance

Also did you change out the belt since you have the larger lower pulley? If not, it may be way to tight. I have a lower Metco 6lb and never heard any noise.

I'm with Rob on this one Jeremy. My 4lb pulley is very close to the cooler lines. You going to Cal's, Stepp's or Nye?

I took my truck into Cal Ford this morning. I haven't heard anything yet from them. I imagine that if they were gonna refuse to work on it then they woulda called me right away. I woulda raised the bull***** flag anyway saying that the problem I took it in for is totally unrelated to the pulley. By the way I took it in for the battery. Guess I will find out in a few hours when I go to pick it up.

The coolant lines were very close to the pulley, but I thought I had them out of the way. I am gonna take it somewhere tomorrow and put it up on a lift to get a real good look at it.

When I changed my 2lb for a JLP 6lb a couple of years ago on my 01 - I noticed the pully is real close to a cooler line. So I put a hose clamp on it to the line on top of it to pull it up a bit. Hasn't rubbed any, but I check it often. My JLP Pulley runs very true - no squeeling whatsover, although the Gatorback belt may have had something to do with it. Later I installed the Metco Upper Idler system.

My 6lber was rubbing those trans cooling line so i had to bend them a little make sure that is not where the sound is coming from. The pulley will wear right through those lines
