Porting vs just a pulley

right now i just have chip, exhaust, intake, and convertor..

what are the advantages of porting vs just going with a pulley. i have heard that porting is like adding a 2 pound pulley, so weighing the hassle of taking the supercharger off, sending it in, etc. what am i gaining vs just adding a 4 pounder..

tks
jim

Oh I'd say future potential..

If I had to choose one or the other, I'd go with the porting even though it costs more. You can always find a deal on a chip & pulley.

The port is going to give you lower temps on the charged air. This greatly reduces your chances of detonation.

I can only speak of the Apten though, since thats the only data I've seen around.

Its very easy to do a bad port on a SC and increase the outlet temps. So be careful on which one you pick.

Good Question

But, just do both and get it over with. Are you actually going to stop there? Eventually your quest for more power will answer your own question, John H

Porting:
Pro = Reduce blower temp AND better HP/TQ curves at the end of RPM band...
Con = expense and truck downtime..

Pulley:
Pro = Cheap and can get more than 2lbs of boost.
Con = Increases blower temp.

If money had no roll, I would port and get a 2lb pulley in order to get 4lbs, instead of just getting a 4lb pulley...

From: Colorado,
For anyone worrying about a warranty.

A port job and predator would really wake up things and woud be difficult to detect.

You're contradicting yourself. If you have never seen data from another source then how do you know it is "very easy to do a bad port on a SC".

I am not saying it isn't possible but I would like to see data that says so first before making assumptions.

Soap, some fellers out there are what ya call "arm chair engineers" No need to steal the guys thunder... er I mean Lightning...er.....uh....? (pun intended)
After all, if a guy owns a gen 2 and has an opinion based on one sliver of *percieved* evidence? That makes him a genuine expert right?

j/k

My last car was a GTP. That community was porting their SCs years ago.

One perticular vendor did lots of testing and posted some of his results here:
