Street vs. Race program........
Guys,
I really don't run all that high of timing
What my game is, is to run AS HIGH as possible ON PUMP GAS
I also happen to believe in driving the streets and racing with the same program's. Hence I have the same power on the street as I do at the track (provided I can hook of course)
But since I'm in the process of buying ET Streets to use 24/7,
I'm thinking that problem is about to go away
I have no hi timing Race Programs (You all Do)
I don't need Racing Fuel to be detonation free (but I use it on race day)
A matter of fact I back down two degrees when I race
And I back down 2lbs of Boost
And I still ran an 11.81 @ 113.9 MPH
Yes 16 degrees is high for Nitrous
And Yes 18 degrees may be marginal for 24/7 street driving on pump gas. But like I say, I build safety into my tune, and have absolutely no probs doing it, 2 years of detonation free driving so far.
Dan everything plays a part, it's not ALL about timing, most of the race programs some have, could never be used on the street, some are so got dam scary the owners have never even tried them out, (RIGHT GUYS). You heard the answer you were looking for 20/21 degrees, I'd say most aggressive (non KB) race tunes
are 19-21 degrees, but the A/F also plays a HUGE part of the overall performance AND SAFETY.
Gator talks of 3/10th's a diff between his street and race side,
there's you other answer. But remember lots of things come into play, type of spark plugs, gap, ""exact"" octane being used, proper cool downs, etc....
Remeber Lean ='s faster, but it also ='s MUCH LESS FORGIVEN
I give up LOT'S of ET "off Juice" to stay safe, but I'll still run mid 12's with a filter chip and pulley
There's other ways to make up that power, you can play with things like the Spark Plug gap, mine is .038-.040, the larger the gap the more the power if you don't have spark blow out. BTW A Plasma Booster will fire CORRECTLY up to .100 Gap (But most say it doesn't do anything) plus a great cool air induction system like JLP WILL make a noticable diff. Also a good T/B, good launch, and yes the Plasma booster helps me again, by allowing a SMOOTHER curve and HIGHER RPM with virtually no misfires. The colder Denso IT-22's also act as a help in dissapating more heat than say a TR6.
Everyone has there tricks, it took me 10 tunes to get where I am,
all I can say is learn it all, know whats it's doing, report it back to the tuner, and don't expect instant sucess, UNLESS YOU HAVE VINNIES MONEY

Thanks guys and THANK YOU Rob for that second picture, and lengthy "101 education"!
I am a sucker for blonde's no doubt about that - I just hope I don't think of that photo mid track on my first 1/4 run....talk about thrust..........
I have the Rob illness of "I will do anything" to run my first 11. In prep for Bradenton, I have stipped my L, removed the front sway bar, installed new JLP 58" traction bars, Tom at Outrageous is installing an electric fan Friday a.m. before the time trials and Willie is burning a 103 octance file for me based on the same stats of my "already kick butt" street file. Unfortunately I come from the "I want it right now" generation and if the Lightning Gods keep me in the 12's then hell at least I know I am going to have a great time meeting other L owners and running my first 1/4 (just hope that stock block holds together).
Thanks again, and Rob anytime you want to use "hot babes" to get your point across - PLEASE DO SO!!! I could have done with out the fatty, but it was a powerful message.....!

Dan I'm sorry, I always go off too long
you knew this stuff better than I do
GO KICK SOME SERIOUS BUTT
Go get them 11's
Loooooooong Cool Down, and great 60 is what it's all about
And if you don't get your 11 YET, don't sweat it.
The fat girl (in a Bikini) (with a tat too of your name) (written across her 3 foot chest) will be at the end of the track waiting to give you a nice big smelly hug (and a little Bootie) for your gallant effort anyway

............On the contrary,
, thanks Rob
Tried out the new JLP bars last night even with a non prepped track I was getting great traction from 16lbs to 20lbs of air pressure. I was still pumping out 7's (7.700 the best) but I had a lower 1.70 60ft. Still not where I want to be, but hopefully with the changes tomorrow before time trials I will pull out (of my ***) that 11.
I made 12 (count'em) passes one right after the other, no cool down just to see how much my times would diminish - I went from a best (first run) of 7.700 to a 7.753. I wasn't thinking to check my air pressure (wet behind the ears), but did following the final run and the pressure was 20lbs - still grabbing off the line. I certainly give marks to the JLP long bar! Removing the anti sway bar too.
At least I now know I can increase tire pressure and hold on at lauch so I don't take a ride at the end. One of my matches was with a C5 ('01) - he ran a 8.4 - that was the highlight of the evening! I thought he was going to star crying LOL
