The quest to find the first Gen 2 Lightning...

Any info would be great.

I have heard many different tales.........

I have heard that the very first one was a BAJA truck, and driven in many different BAJA style events around the world.

I have heard that someone could have it and just not know.

If you know anything please post, even if your not sure about if it it true or not.

Thanks

Yes the very first Gen 1 was raced as a succesful SCORE off road 2WD class truck. If memory serves, it was white, which was unique because only red and black were available the first year. I do have the article on it amongst my hundreds of collected Lightning articles, maybe I'll dig it up sometime when I get a free moment.

Thanks Sal.....

I would prolly want to buy it, I think that later down the line this might be worth a pretty penny.

Plus parts are easy to get now, rather than later...20 years from now.

Sorry, don't want to sound like a jerk, but my small amount of records would show that you could get white.

Ohhh, sorry, the Baja thing threw me off.

Well, I was supposed to have the first Gen2 off the assembly line. I owned the NLOC at the time, and worked closely with SVT. They agreed to give me truck number 1 as a thank you for my club supporting Lightnings all these years. They were going to fly me to Canada, and do a little press thing with me driving the first Lightning off the assembly line. I was quite excited. Of course none of it ever happened, as they cancelled the trip. Then to make matters worse, even though I DID have the first gen 2 order placed, since the bed covers were delayed, all orders with bed covers got pushed back. So I wound up getting truck 416.

Aside from my pity story, I really have no idea where truck number 1 ended up. I'm sure the first few trucks probably went to Ford employees. I do know there were 24 "pre-production" trucks that were built before the official truck number 1 was designated. One of the engineers I worked with in transmission calibration had one. It had a completely different VIN. As a matter of fact, I have all 24 of those VINs SOMEWHERE.

Wow, that's pretty damn cool...

I would just like to know more about it, what color, where it's at, you know that kind of stuff.

But these "24" pre-production trucks have caught my interest.
