Question stereo speaker and amp question...

Well Im going to upgrade the stereo...Ive searched about all i can take, so heres the questions i still have...

Right now I have an eclipse head unit, a 10" sub and amp with the stock door speakers...the stockers have got to go now...

Do you really even need the back speakers? I was going to put 6 1/2 components in the front, with an amp pushing those...and another sub, so there would be a 10" behind each seat.

would it be worth putting 6 1/2 co-ax in the back and amping them? would it be ok to just leave the stock ones in there? i dont mind spending the money, but if you can hear them, then what does it matter?

thanks for the help (i need all i can get because i know nothing about this!!)

just disconnect the stock ones. Not worth having the speakers back there.

I would say, if u dont wanna change them, it wont hurt much to atleast keep the stockers, but not amp them up with power.

Get some MB Quart components with a kick panal of some sort. Get some AWESOME sound out of them.

What kind of Subwoofer do you have?

I have 2 10" SW810DVC's I WANT to put them in the L but...am not sure if they'll fit.

i'm in the process of doing my system. i am putting one orion hcca 10" and the orion xtr 9002 to run it behind the seat (the 1.4 cu. ft. box and amp rack barely fits)
i will be 'glassing my own custom kickpanels to hold my components

as far as speakers, i like
-infinitys (kappa series, although the reference series is a good value for the price)
-mb quarts - the discus line that comes with the musicomp crossovers sound good, i put those in my GFs jeep, not too expensive either
-boston acoustics - proseries of course

an easy way to go would be to get a set of those JL audio 6x8 component sets.

most importantly, just pick some out that you like the way they sound. go listen to a few different pairs at the same store, close your eyes and have the salesman or a friend switch them for you. then you can really hear the difference. don't forget to use a CD to listen. the radio will not cut it, the sound quality is so bad, it will color the speakers and maybe bias your decision!

don't forget to dampen the doors with dynamat, eDead, Raamat or similar.

I don't know why you guys always say that you can't hear speakers in the back. I can def tell a difference when my back ones are not on. My box is almost touching the sides where the speakers are and I can hear them well. They provide a rear fill and also seem to elevate the sound a little bit, hard to explain. When I lean back in my seat, I can hear my rear speakers very loudly. I'm sure i'm not getting the full potential out of them but they def do provide some sound....

MBqaurts are a little fragile for my taste. I like quality but I also like to pump them with power and play the heck out of them. I have the Kicker RS6 components, mounted them in the stock location with a little fabrication and they sound awesome.

I also have two L5 solobarics behind the seat in a fiberglass enclosure with a kicker 1200.1 running them, and a rockford 600a4 running the front components and rear cerwins....you can't hardly hear the rears.

Disconnect the stockers completely or they will cause distortion at higher levels or just end up blowing....just my .02.

MB Quarts are not as fragile as some people think. I have about 150watts RMS going into the tweeter and woofer of the q-series components and max is around 500watts per speaker. They are biamped

Right now i have a eclipse 10" behind the passenger seat, and i want to put another behind my seat....i had al and eds build me a box, which sucks a$$, so now im gonna glass one of my own...

i was thinking about staying full eclipse and getting some 6 1/2 components to go in the front, but im not sure if i want to do the kick panels or not...

im still debating on getting 6 1/2 co-ax for the back, but im wondering, if i do put some in the back, should i amp those also? would they distort if the fronts were amped and both were turned up?

i thought about mb quarts but i dont have that much money!!

put some CDT-61a components in the front:

and CDT-5x 2-ways in the back for rear fill:

hey for $45 u can't go wrong, thats what I plan on running. You can choose to amp or not amp the rear fill.

I disconnected mine in my 2001 L, had Quart 6 1/2" in the doors and 2 JL 10's, at nice volume level I could hear the stock 5x7's crapping out trying to play their full range, it sounded crappy until I pulled the plug on them....

You know I didn't believe the talk about not being able to hear the rears either. So I went out and bought four speakers to upgrade the factory paper junk. Well I still couldn't hear the rears, so I put the stockers back in and then clipped the wires and used those feeds as a high level input to my amp and one ten inch JL. My expectations were lower than a lot of people on this board, but man I love it. Plenty of volume for me and enough thump to make looking in the rear view mirror look like those WWII history channel movies that were shot from a P-51. Just my two cents.
