Optima battery part number?

I need a battery, so I might as well go optima. Which one should I use? There are no major stereo upgrades, but I do spend some time listening while the engine is off, and I do have an EFan. Also, do I need a custom bracket, and where can I get one?

I have a red top Optima. $99 at Costco. I've had it for a few months, no problems. No e-fan though. It's been mounted underneath the bed for a couple weeks now as well. No problems yet!

Based on what their website sez, I would have gotten the yellow top if I had a bunch of accesories (e-fan and/or intercooler fans). $40 extra though, and this grad student was just scraping by!

Hey Randy,
How did you mount it?
Did you use a cut off switch?
Did you buy a kit?
Got any pics?
If you haven't guessed...this is my next project. Thanks.

Fred

Whip,
Sorry for jacking the thread.
Buy the yellow one

Fred,
Yup, I will be doing a pictorial on it, hopefully I'll get to posting it this week, just been busy (and I wanted to give it some time to make sure it wasn't going to 1) fall off or 2) explode)

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the yellow one a deep-cycle battery? If so, it will not crank the engine over as well as the red one.

Yup, it is a deep cycle. But the CCA of the yellow are only about 50 less than the red. I remember when the Optima's came out. The red top was the first released and the yellow top a while later. Perhaps the yellow is just newer tech.

I bought the "BLUE TOP"

p/n 8016-103

it is supposed to be a combination deep cycle & starting battery?

I use it to run my e-fan and e-pump at the track.

actually though I just picked it up from batteries plus, having it tested. it was dead the other day when I went out to start the truck. they said it was fine, but had just needed to be charged. i'll test it again when I get it back to work to make sure.

but in fairness, it had been sitting since prolly last november in the cold garage.

later,
chris

The yellow IS a deep cycle. It recharges faster than the red or blue. This is important for drag racing. You don't want the alternater charging the battery during the run. This will rob horsepower.
Don't worry about turning over the Lightning engine. The low compression engine spins easy.

BTW:
TommyLightning had a great price on them.
