No more Whine...
Had to give my L up. I really enjoyed it while I had it. I dreamed of it since it came out for about two years, finally got it and swore I would keep it forever when I got it back in 2001.
Well things change, my wife is due with our first baby (a girl) in June, we are so excited!!!
We had two regular cab pickups. The L and a 2000 Chevy Silverado. Since we now need a family vehicle one had to go. I really wanted to keep the L over the Chevy of course... but the Chevy is paid off and runs great, while the L still had a balance on the loan. Wife is stayng home with the baby for a year, so funds will be tight, did not want two big car payments... so the L had to go. Tried to sell on my own for two months but had no serious buyers. Had to trade it in for $1500 less than I had it advertised for (still got more than Edmunds trade in value for Outstanding condition). I 'm satisfied with that.
We leased a 2004 Acura MDX, very nice, roomy, safe, and my wife wanted it and is very happy (we all know how important that is). She actually told me to keep the L since she knows how much I love it, but things would be more affordable this way. So she promised when she goes back to work, I can then get a Gen III L in a few years. This is just a small sacrifice for our baby which I do not mind making one bit. Plus all the time I spent cleaning and detailing the L, will now be spent with our baby. I really enjoyed my L while I had it for the two plus years. Awesome truck in every way and was very realiable for me, no serious problems in the 23k miles, will miss it for sure.
I think I will miss the whine, the 0-60 blasts and the waves from other L owners the most.
I will be back in a few years!
Thanks for all the Lightning chat!
Gone but not forgotten...
Our new Acura MDX ( I'm impressed with the smoothness and quality).
If anyone is interested, my L was very well taken care of and is still for sale at the Acura dealer in Naples Florida. Email me for "inside" prices and details, if you are interested.

Sorry to hear you had to sell you Lightning, but it is for a great purpose. Make sure you keep a close eye on the miles. Everyone that I know that has leased a vehicle ends up paying for going over the alotted miles.

I remember doing something similar when I was your age.
Had a Black 67 stang like the one in Bullit with 390 and 4-speed. Hated to give it up but it was like your story.
Finding my Black L is like a time machine only better with whine and cheese and I don't have to shift
You did the right thing.
ENJOY.

Thanks guys. We are really looking foward to being parents.
I'm not worried about the miles on the lease, we both live very close to work and with my wife staying home with the baby we should be fine.
I only put 23k miles on the L in 30 months.
LatemodelRacer2 - the only mods I had on the L were the Factory Tech Valve body, deep tran pan, and a K&N panel air filter. I did not remove any of them when I traded it in. I was planing on exhaust, chip, pulley... after the warranty was up.
I suggested the Harley to the wife, but she is not into it, something about the baby needing a nice smoth ride. Part of the deal was, she got to pick this vehicle and then when she goes back to work as a Nur$e Practitioner, I will get to pick! Right now I think Gen III L, but we will see what else is out when the time comes. I'm liking the upcoming Mustang also, can't wait to see the next Cobra.
Please don't feel too bad for me. My dad just got a 2004 Marauder to go under his Corvette, I just about have him talked into puting a Eaton Super Charger on it. He will let me drive if I want, so I will not go into total whine withdrawal!

The problem is. You will miss the wine
. I was without a Lightning, and I will never be with out one again. I was so desperate I was going to put a blower on my 03 King Ranch Supercrew. Best of luck with the new Baby.
Thought of any names yet?
