Red face Rookie runs 13.9@80???

I took my truck out to the track for the first time to get some baseline times before I put my JLP "12 sec in a box" mods on. Only problem is that I didn't get any good baseline runs. Now I did just make a 20 min drive and pull into the lanes. Ran straight off the street, 30# in the rear tires and all. Track was about 65 degrees. So I'm wondering what could I have run had times been good?

1st run ( backed off before the end of the track )
60' - 2.19
1/8 - 8.89@81.18
1/4 - 13.99@80.57

2nd run (hot lapped & major traction problems)
60' - 2.45
1/8 - 10.08@78.35
1/4 - 15.17@89.19

3rd run (hot lapped & hopping axle)
60' - 2.46
1/8 - 9.27@80.60
1/4 - 14.14@99.95

So with my 13 being at only 80mph and my 14 being very close to 100 where should my ET have been? And yes I know I need more practice on my 60'

With a 1.8 -1.9 60ft, that could have been @ 13.3 @ 100 MPH
Any day is a good day at the track, CONGRATS.....

Temple Academy Dragway? if so, it may be worth it to go to Texas Motorplex in Ennis. TAD is a dump in my opinion vs the other tracks, not to mention it is part of an old two lane road, very narrow and very short for being a ¼ mile track (no shut down, just slam on the brakes and turn, lol)

Keep trying and get more practice, the ET's will come down.

Judging by the speed of your runs I'd say it's got a 13.8 @ 101 in it. Maybe a little quicker on a really good track.

It would be a tremendous help to know what your time was at the 1000ft mark. Then we would be able to make much more accurate guesses.

Thanks Rob, that's about where I was thinking (hoping) also.

Ya I went to TAD. Was kinda shocked when I first got there because I was expecting something more like Ennis or HRP...I should have known better. But ya you're right about it being short thats why I shut down early on my first run because I was slowing down for the turn around. Ya I'm hoping to go to Ennis after I get my dyno runs while I'm in Dallas here in a couple weeks. You going any time soon?

I'm not real knowledgable on the quarter mile but I ran a 13.9 at 80 so you're saying adding 20mph at the top end will only net me a 1/10th?

Wish I could give you that but they don't time the 1000ft at Temple Academy. Thanks for trying though

Ya I didn't even want to get my slip for that 15 sec run, but I couldn't let the truck go down runnin a 15 sec 1/4 mile. So I hot lapped it and got a 14 before I left

Yep. You ran a 13.99 and a 13.8 is 2 tenths quicker. (not 1/10.) Irreguardless of how crappy the launch (within reason) the final speed is a very very good indication of the power your making.

I'll stick to my original guess. 13.80 at 101mph. Run it and let us know!

its anybodys guess and you can do enough research to back up any theroy

the facts are your consistant launch (HA HA)

if you say you backed off on the first run and got 13.99 at 80

we could only asume you backed off at the very las t few feet

that would only cost 1 or 2 tenths at the most

worry less about the top speed and more about your 60 foot times

or put a pulley on the poor thing

Well I know all trucks are differant, But when mine was stock (except cat back) I ran a 13.34 @ 102-103 with consistant 13.4x's this was at E-town here in Jersey which is not known for good 60' times the best I got on F1's was a 1.97 with about 25psi
Oh I forgot I did have the bost dump selonoid disabled ( no dump of boost between shifts)
So I am with Rob02 a solid 13.3-4 range is there for you to take
get the launch down ( go off idle slow roll into it ) and you will see those times and after mods you listed a nice mid 12 with F1's and say mid/low 12's with slicks (28") I got 26"'s and they hurt me but still got a 12.6 with 28" I would have had a 12.3/12.4
I don't believe everyone else about trap speed it does affect the truck just looses to much steam with too much gear and blower just becomes a nice engine block heater....lol

So good luck
Slick

Thanks for the input guys...looks like it's a tossup wether I should be running high or mid/low 13s. I know it could do better since I wasn't consistant at all, but not sure how much more I could improve the 60' at that track since no one ran under a 2.1 that I went up against...atleast not on street tires. But I think that if I let her cool down, lowered the rear tire pressure, and figured out the launch I coulda had my low 13. But, looks like I might not be able to get anymore runs in before I get my JLP parts, so I'm just glad I didn't totally miss the 13s. Now the real fun begins...trying the same thing with more power
