How did you like the Meziere electric water pump?(I'm assuming it was on your "old" motor, via the pics.) I'm curious, because I was thinking of installing one on my truck, but just a little nervous due to their past problems(which I'm told have been resolved), and in terms of reliability (my baby is also street driven).

Also, did you notice any gains from it(HP/ET)? I would think it would be of considerable worth due to its relieving the motor of yet, more parastic drag. Any impressions would be appreciated.
I do not have before and after dyno or dragstrip numbers for the electric water pump and e-fan. however I'm sure that they combine to make some small hp gain via the simple fact that the engine is not having to spend hp turning the two items mechanically.

but I don't consider them to be at the top (or even the bottom) of my list for HP mods.

both (when used together) are EXTREMELY useful mods though, regardless of any minor hp gains that you might get.

I look at it like this:

I used to go to the track spend $10, $20, $40 whatever dollars (or 150+ dollars if Fun Ford Weekend is in town )

since VA tends to be HOT and HUMID during the summer and we have VERY short spring and fall seasons, most of the time I go to the track, the conditions are not exactly "ideal".

so I used to go to the track and make a run and then I'd have to sit and let the truck cool for 2 hours to get another decent run.

after spending a bunch of money to get in, I only ended up getting a few runs at the track because my truck wanted long cool down times between runs.

well with the e-pump and e-fan, I just make a run, pull into the pits, pop the hood, cut on the pump and fan, and go grab a track dog.

by the time I get back from the concession stand (5-10mins tops) the truck is completely cooled down and ready to run again!

long story short. I get a lot more fun per dollar and per hour at the track now!

more racing, less sitting around.

as far as reliability, I've only had the thing on since last summer, but so far, it works great with no leaks, ABSOLUTELY NO overheating, no problems whatsoever. it will definately be going onto the new motor.

later,
chris

Thanks Bro! That is all I needed to know. I live in the DFW metroplex, and like VA, the fall and winter seasons here are short in comparison to Spring and Summer. I'd venture to say that it's at, or above 80* here 8 months out of the damn year, so I'm pretty big on doing things that will aid in efficiency.

Keep us posted on your progress. I'll be eager to hear about that Nitrous Injected Sonic Blue Beast spanking that a$$!

Take Care.

Later,
Rob

Thanks for any input.

as Sal said, the cab doesn't HAVE to be lifted to get the motor out.

lots of people do it the "normal" way and just yank the motor through the hood opening.

I just like to do it this way.

it doesn't take too long at all. 2 hours easy. some people claim 45 minutes, but I'm slow I guess.

Hey Chris,
great pictures! You look like you are doing it the 'right way'!!Way to go!
What lb pulley will you be running Chris? In your opinion, what is too much for a built block? Also have you thought about what octane you will need for daily driving? Anyways, keep up the good work!

I buddy of mine just swapped engines on his '01 and said that removing the cab is a very easy process and it does make it much easier to do the swap. He has done it both ways.

6 bolts and two back up cables to the frame (in case those 6 bolts fail) then all the wiring/hoses

Exactly what I was thinking of doing. How many miles have you been using the electric pump, and is your truck a daily driver? I was thinking of adding the meziere to my electric fan as my next mod.

I take it you havent had any problems with the battery completely draining on you. I have the Flex-A-Lite fan, and I'm not sure if it draws more current then what you have.

I wanted to also know if their was a way to turn on the intercooler pump, and maybe add some fans to the heat exchanger.

Thanks
-Mike

I think I put the pump on last summer some time, so prolly only around 6K miles or so on the pump, but no problems so far. talk to Sal for more info, lots of people are running them. I love it. My truck WAS a daily drive till I bought a winter beater/dog mobile, but the Bronco is sold and leaves AS SOON as I get the L running again, so the L will once again become my daily driver.

Oh, I've definately had problems with battery drain. I installed an Optima blue top starting/deep cycle battery and killed it too

you ABSOLUTELY have to keep an eye on exactly how long the pump and fan have been running, because they WILL kill your battery and leave you dead in the pits. I bought a jump box from Pep Boys for like $99 dollars to haul to the track with me. a good investment. however if you keep the run times down to 5 minutes or so, (DEFINATELY stay under 8 or 10!) then you should be ok.

the problem is compounded when you run the pump&fan, then go to the lane, maybe cut off and restart the truck a few times while moving forward in the lane, then make a quick blast and then go back to the pits and cut the fan/pump on again, there just isn't much time for the battery to charge.

dont get me wrong, I LOVE these two mods, but you DO have to keep an eye on your watch.

turning on the intercooler pump and adding auxilliary fans would be easy enough, but would likely drain your battery in like 30 seconds!

IMHO, you'd HAVE to do a relocation to the bed(or under the bed) and add a second battery.

good luck.

later,
chris
