I have had quite a few. First was at 6k miles. Just a rotten egg from the factory. Second was my mechanic's fault. He serviced the tranny with the wrong fluid causing eventual breakdown. Third was just bad driving habits coupled with about 450bhp. I am actually just about to install FT MIB rebuilt kit and hopefully kiss my problems good bye. Could give you more details if you really want to hear. Hope this helps.

I don't have the truck anymore but at 7000 miles with no mods it was having a hard time with the 1-2 shift at WOT. Tranny was replaced under warranty.

64,400 miles on my 2001 L. About 30K ago, I flushed out the OEM fluid and replaced it with Redline's D4 Synthetic fluid. No problems--so far and it has been 1/4 miled, burnouts, and driven daily.

I know you asked for "problems" but maybe the Redline D4 will help someone keep from having problems?

I have a 2000 Lightning. This time last year, I blew my tranny at the race track. I drove it home without 2nd and 3rd gears, all I had was 1st and overdrive. It wouldn't shift out of first unless I let off the gas. I smoked the clutch packs, and had to get a new converter too. Wasn't fun. I think I had 25,000 miles on it then.

im trying to think but wheres the shift point for 1st? Isnt it like 40 mph? and 4th starts at like 47 or something right? I didn't think the two would overlap. How did that work out?

My 2000 lost 2nd gear @ the track with 11,000 miles on it. Replaced it with a Monster Box. That lasted one thousand miles and lost all foward gears. Factory Tech rebult it at no charge. I'm now up to 15,000 miles on the truck, 3,000 on the second Monster Box. I bought the truck new in May '00. It was stock until 10,000 miles. I added a chip, filter and a 6lbs. lower, blew the trans after a thousand miles with those mods.

I notice what feels like "play" when my 2000 stock L shifts gears. I hope this is not a sign of troubles ahead. I just bought it a few months ago. I can't help getting on the gas, can't imagine when I mod it up.

Hi!!

Welcome to f-150online

Well i recomment you a FTVB (factory tech valve body) for your tranny It will improve your shifts and let the tranny last longer

Angry 2000 Lightning

My son bought a 2000 SVT on Monday. Today all forward gears went out. Luckily when we bought it we argued for a 4 year/48000 mile warranty on them. Today was his 18th bday, so having his truck dead on his 18th bday, sucked.

I dont know, I just know it blew on the track. The light turned green, I floored it, and it would hit red line and bounce off the limiter. I let off the gas and it slammed into gear. I coasted off the track, and was driving around in the parking lot. The OD light was flashing... On the way home it was driving really rough. In stop and go traffic it sucked, but on the highway it was fine. I would take off and it wouldnt shift out of 1st. Weather I was at 2,000 rpm or 5,000 rpm if I took my foot off the gas, it'd shift then. I brought it to the dealership and they said my 2nd and 3rd gears were smoked, and the clutch packs were all gone.
