- Troubles Removing Stock Exhaust? -
Be a little more specific, I have seen the exhaust come off my lightning lots of times. Were does it look like it is hanging up at? I would like to try to help for with what little I do know
oh man, have fun with that one!! i know exactly what youre talking about.
it took me a raw-hide mallet and some wd-40 to get mine off. after about 30 minutes of beating, it finally gave.
i saw a good idea on a site once...the guy took a cargo strap (nylon restraint...whatever) and hooked one side up to the exhaust around the mufflers, and the other side onto the tow hitch in the back, then started tightening it down using the lever. it seems like that would work realy well to pry it off.
good luck

im not sure exactly where you are at at pulling it off, but i've heard that using another truck to give it a lil tug is an easy way to go. Just make sure there isnt anything left ok? I dont wanna read a post about how some jackass told you to use another truck and you ripped your headers off your block.
Oh yeah and if you wanna just sawzall it, makes your muffler into butter.

i had the same problem...depending on how tight the factory tightened the clamps a strap or hammer may not be enough. if you do not want to save anything then the sawzall will work.
if you can get a torch or "bottle heater" as in a propane bottle with a hose and burning tip, you can heat the area where the clamps have crimped the pipe and it will expand...took me about 10 minutes of heating and and pulling to slide her off but she finally came. i would not recommend the 2 truck method cuz you could seriously mess something up if you pull too hard

First, if your truck has any miles at all on it, budget a good half hour the get the dang stock muffler off. Mine was already replaced once by the dealer only 1000 miles ago and it was practically welded on by the time it was time to come off. Had to coax the thing off with a little heat and an enthusiastic mallet. Was considering saving the stock exhaust in case I wanted to return it to OEM later, but a couple swings with the mallet put those plans to pasture.
What I have always done is cut a slit in the the overlapping pipe(stock muffler) with a grinder and then pry it open a little bit. The overlapping pipe will then slip right out. THis method has taken me no more than 10 minutes to do and it does not damage either end if you are careful.
Good luck

Sucks for us Harley owners, when the stock cat back is almost 6ft long..
