Angry If you need something done, do it yourself

vent on/
Well, was feelin' lazy today,so on my way to work I decided to get my tires rotated. Never give an air-wrench to an idiot. he stripped one of my wheel studs, then told me it was because there was some grease on the threads. They didn't even appologize.. just said "you're gunna need a new wheel stud. That will be $20 for the rotation". If there is something you can do yourself, I say do it and save some headaches.

I won't name the shop (a national tire chain), but rest assured they won't see me again. A simple appology and admitting they screwed up would have kept me their customer, but never again.

So how much is a new wheel stud gunna cost at the dealer?

Thanks
Lurch

Front or back.

If its the back then. The axles have to come out which means diff. the cover comes off which means new fluids. It gets expensive.

Not sure about fronts, but could not be that big a deal.

the "national tire chain" should definately be paying for this! did you speak to the manager?

even if you didn't then I'd pay the bill at the dealership and take it straight back to him/her. if they aren't cooperative, then go on up the management chain until you get results.

(edit: they should definately be paying for it IF the stud was stripped AFTER the rotation. meaning that they stripped it when RE-INSTALLING the lug nuts. believe it or not, it is quite common to have an otherwise perfectly good lugnut/stud gall or strip on removal. there is no way for anybody, idiot or not, to know that this is going to happen in advance.)

good luck.

later,
chris

P.S. We see this (and worse) all the time at the dealer.
