Need some help with rear brakes
This is actually for a 97 4x4 Expedition but the rear brakes are the same as on the Lightning.
I was trying to help out my parents and save them some $$$ by doing the rear brakes in there Expe. It's gone from bad to worse and now I am stuck.
Both rotors were frozen onto the truck because the E-brake was stuck on, after working with the E-brake for a while I was able to get one rotor off, but still no luck with the other one. I have un-hooked the cable and hit the little lever that turns the brake on and off tons of times, and still the rotor will not free up. So at this point I was just going to put the new pads on, have my mother take the truck to a shop and have them fix the E-brake and put the new rotor on.
When I went to put the caliper back on, I noticed that the piston was very loose, and when I touched it with my hand brake fluid started coming out around the piston!!! So now what? What can I do to get the truck to a shop so they can fix it? Should I buy new calipers and put them on, and then take it to a shop? Should I just have it towed, or can I some how rig it up with a missing rear caliper just to get it to a shop?
I don't know how hard calipers are but I am not having much luck with anything and don't have a ton of confidence that it will go smoothly.
Thanks for what ever help anyone can offer!
John
