Vinyl vs. Paint design...

I was messing around with photoshop a little and really liked this concept for my truck...

Keep in mind this is just an idea and the final version would be a lot neater than this.

How much do you think this would cost in Vinyl vs. Painting it on? I know it would vary from place to place but I am just asking for some ball park figures.

Also could you even make vinyl look near as good as the paintjob would look? I have seen some good vinyl jobs on cars, but I just dont know.

BTW, I didnt mess with it enough to get the proper colors, but the inner part of the bolt would be silver like the wheels and the outter part of the bolt would be black or gunmetal color.

Since it is not a design (like Flames) that other people have, I would vinyl first (not that expensive) then if it grows on ya then have the design painted on.

If it does not grow on ya then just take it off.

Ya, that would be a good idea. I'm just trying to figure out a way to set my L apart. I think white or light silver race stripes might look good too, but I haven't done any drawing of that idea yet. I still need to call Terry and ask him for some ideas as well.

I would guess Vinyl $500-700
$200 or so for the time it takes to do the art work
$100 for the Vinyl, the rest for installation

Paint $1500-2500 depends if you bring it into the door jams, what type of paint, and how many coats of clear.

I have abuddy who does Vinyl, and is awesome at design. He did the art work for my stripe and cut the paint mask that the autobody shop used to paint my truck.

Not sure how much it cost, but I know its alot cheaper than paint and if you get tired of the design, you can change it real easy. Its kinda like a engine mod, you can take it off and go back to stock pretty quick and painless

Here is one local guy for ya, and you wouldnt know its not paint until you get right up on it.

What you cant see from the picture is that the blue is a brilliant metallic blue. What they can do with vinyl is incredible these days.

Ya that L looks nice. I wanna come up with something like that.

I can get hooked up on Vinyl 2 different ways. I have two best friends:

Friend #1: His brother which is one of my friends too works for a vinyl shop doing all of their install. He can get the vinyl for cost and install it for me for free. The custom design might be a little extra though.

Friend #2: His dad who I know real well works for a Sign and vinyl company. I think their stuff might be a litter higher quality than the other. Could probably get this for cost and installed free as well.

I like the idea of using vinyl because its cheaper and temporary. However, you have to be careful how long you leave it on. I have seen cars that it gets baked on and needed to have the paint stripped so they could be rid of the remnants.

Here's a photoshopped idea I had a few years back, still thinking about it. Vinyl lightning bolt. Even thought about having the whole backhalf in vinyl, so it can be easily replaced every few years after burnouts
