Thumbs Up to Apten
I wanted to give a big thumbs up to Brian at Apten.
As some may or may not know, PSP is an Apten dealer. Brian told us he's got a new port design for the Lightning blower, improved over the old Apten port design, which is what everyone is copying. (this is where all the R&D by the original manufacturer pays off!)
I got a few units back the other day from getting the new porting for customer jobs. Today, we dynoed an 02 Lightning, with a fresh PSP motor in it. The motor had 125 miles on the break in, and has 100% stock heads and cams. Mods on the truck were an 8lb lower, new Apten port, PSP/Billetflow TB, PSP FASTair system, and long tubes. That's it.
The truck made 450rwhp and 560rwtq. This was with 11.8 A/F on pump gas, and only 12 degrees of timing. The powerband was very impressive, with no signs of "lost torque" like some have mentioned after the Apten port. I felt this power was suberb for such little mods.
A few other nice observations. For referance, the outside air temp was 40 degrees. Datalogging on the road in real time- With the Apten port, the IAT2 temp on a full 1/4 mile blast only reached 120 degrees! We've seen as high as 160 in the same conditions with a stock Eaton. And keep in mind, the 8lb pulley. The Apten port definitely makes better use of the entire heat exchanger. Also, with our PSP FASTair system installed, and 40 degree outside air, sitting at an idle only showed 60 degrees intake temps on the IAT1 sensor. Within 3 seconds of the truck moving, the intake charge was within 4 degrees of ambient air.
Oh, and with the 8lb and Apten port, this truck makes 18 psi!
Just some tidbits of info for those who like to be "in the know".

Oh hell Yah!!!!!!!!!!!
I love seeing that 450 number Sal. Every time I see it I know that my numbers are not a fluke
.
I have one question for you. I too was running 8lb over and hit 18lbs. The difference is that I was using a 6lower and two upper.
Is it better to run with the 8lb lower and stock upper...or does it matter.
Excellent results, and congrats on the pairing of PSP and Apten.
Rocks
I just noticed the torque number...WOW!!!! That is impressive.

my second response: my PSP tuned truck with similar mods except STOCK eaton and 6lb lower made 430something and 550tq.
so hopefully I'm not so far behind after all.
we'll see soon hopefully.

Superfords, what mods put you at 430? Im hoping to be at around 420 after my mods are installed in a couple of weeks, and push the 450 mark with a ported eaton this summer. I'll probably stop there until I can afford a new motor.

PSP chip
PSP air filter
PSP #6 lower
JDM/Kooks long tubes
those are the main ones in my opinion, I have a LOT more mods, but they offer minor hp/tq gains IMHO, but it does all add up.
such as:
e-fan
e-waterpump
extrude honed upper plenum
heat exchanger
billetflow single blade throttle body
I'm definately hoping to be over 500 RWHP on the new motor w/ the Apten.
now back to Sal's impressive new Apten numbers!
later,
chris

but I respect our Vendor's request for not posting his pictures.
I will show you the next best thing
My Wasp

The Wasp II

The new style Apten is now cut more like the bottom picture
sticking to one straighter large opening, and also has a newer
design to the upper secondary opening. Me likey, it looks pretty,
I also like the way it keeps the factory rolling up edge, for more strength.
But the original design is out there on hundreds and hundred and hundreds of satisfied L owner trucks. I could have waited a week and got the new port, but I feel mine is just fine, the difference
is HUGE in performance gains ON MY SET UP
Gator picked up 40HP + 20ft lbs of torque with the Apten II
on last weeks dyno comparison, Maybe I only got 30-35 HP,
who knows yet, BUT WHATEVER IT IS, it made a HUGE seat of the pants difference and I'm MORE than happy with it.
This thing pulls in the mid and upper ranges now LIKE NEVER BEFORE. How much more got dam HP do I need anyway ????
It's gonna blow up now............
EDIT Oh BTW Sal
Glad to see your selling Apten. (BIG THUMBS UP)
