I am ordering my tires this week. What is going to hook better...28x10x16 Hoosier slicks or 28x11.5x10 Hoosier QTP's? Is there that much difference? I will have and extra 3" of rubber on the ground as well with the QTP's (1.5" per side).

 

If in doubt which is best, contact Dons Bolt, as he has used both and can shed some light on this subject for you. You may want to look at his ET also, it should convince you that he knows what he is talking about.
Personally, I ran the Hoosier 28x10x16's.

FULL SLICK!!!!

 

If you run on the street you may want to get the quick time. If you go to the track on "street" nights then they may not let you run with full slicks. Yes, you'll get better traction with the full slicks. I have quick time pros and cut 1.6's all of the time.

 

So what would you cut with a full slick

 

Don't know, but probably better. If all you are running are the times in your signature I would say get the quick time pros. That way you could use them on the street also.

 

FULL SLICKS, the "street slicks" are not realistically useable on the street anyway, so there is no real "dual purpose" to them. the only reason to use them would be if you ABSOLUTELY HAD to drive to the track on your slicks, OR if your racing class REQUIRED DOT tires.

get the full slicks, you won't be dissappointed.

I drive with mine on the street. I have seen many racers turned down at the track because they had slicks on street night.

 

street night is a good point if your track requires "street tires"

I have driven with my full slicks on the street as well, but that doesn't make either one very safe. heaven forbid it should start to rain while you are away from home.

however, I don't believe that the et streets or qt pros are the same compound as the full slicks. I think that the "street" tires have harder compounds which prolly = less traction.

so I guess check with your local track rules... and then buy the full slicks anyway.


I've raced at Virginia Motorsports Park (strict on rules) and Richmond Dragway (um... not so strict) with my full slicks on street night with no issues... YET.

Yes, but when the po po stop you the dot's are probably going to save you a ticket if they have enough tread left...

 

I already have 10" rims. So real slicks are better....k
