Question Phenolic Spacer?

Haven't heard much about these lately...
Those that are running them, did you notice any SOP difference with it? or is this one of those low-bang-for-the-buck mods?

I think a lot of people have forgotten about it. It is gonna be one of my next mods. I mean for 89 bucks it cant hurt since it is keeping the upper plenum cool in the hot weather we have down here.

That is true.. but I wonder if it makes enough power for you to FEEL. I just installed my JLP air kit, and I can definately feel the difference. I would hate to install the spacer and feel no difference.

Yeah I've got the mod, but I haven't heard much about it lately. (I also have a ported plenum) When I put it on, I noticed a colder inake plenum. I didnt measure it with anything more than my hand. But usually after a drive (a hard one taking it up to 15#'s, and a few WOT's) I come back and if I put my hand on the plenum, it's hot to the touch. Real hot. After the spacer, the intake didnt seam to get hot at all. It may have been just a 1 time shot, I dont know if I have checked it sense then. But I would imagine it seperates the heat from the supercharger from getting to the intake. Some of it at least. I've yet to get a better et though. I don't see any more of a gain in the 1/4 than putting ice on my intake in staging. We'll see though. I'll let ya know how i do in the spring with my new set up.

I wouldn't suggest you put the spacer on and FEEL anything. Even if it gives you 5hp or whatever. (which I'm not saying it does) I dont think you'll feel that like your intake or something. Nothing like a chip, or a pulley. If all you have is the Intake, I'd hold off on the spacer.

I put one on. I would not say that it was an improvement I could feel. I did notice that the plenum stayed cooler between runs at the track.

For the price, I thought it was worth it.

They keep the intake plenum cooler. Not sure if there is much hp to be gained with them but they do help keep the heat off the plenum.

We have them available for $79.95 and will have them on our website tonight! We also have a spacer for the EGR to keep some heat from that off the plenum. The EGR spacer with the proper hardware is $34.95

Do you still ice the intake with the spacer? If so, do you think the spacer could actually hurt the ability of the ice to cool everything down?

Actually I have a ram air intake, 4# pulley, FTVB, and a Magnaflow. I think one of the reasons I felt such a difference with the filter kit is because I am running the 4# pulley.

Thanks for the info!

I still ice the intake during staging. I'm not sure how much of that gets to the motor/charger. But it does help between runs. 01Lightning If you have the lower pulley, I'd say the spacer can only help you.

I truely doubt you can feel, seat of the pants, hp gain from an airkit. But speaking of the spacer, I did a write up on the before and after dyno pulls with the spacer. I even did hot motor pulls with and without the spacer. I got mine from JDM and its a proven performance gainer

Do a search and Iam sure you can find the thread. But in the meantime, here's the cold motor before and after dyno pulls

Contraire! The JLP ramair kit made such a difference, even the wife noticed! I think my modified stock box was really starving my engine after installing the 4# pulley.
But believe me, it made a very noticable difference!

Thanks Gator for the info on the spacer, and yes I did find your previous post via a search. I am still debating on the spacer.

I would think that the 4# lower made the difference and not the CAI.

Just as if you would have put the CAI on first then the 4# pulley.

So I would agree w/ Gator.

Also think the JDM spacer is agreat mod especially at the track.

Just for clarification:

The 4# pulley went on about a year ago, shortly after I cut the bottom of the stock airbox. I ran this setup until last week when I installed the ram air and noticed the power increase.

Vinnie, I am assuming you have the spacer... did you notice any SOP difference? I realize that it is easy to THINK you notice a difference when there may be none.

Had the spacer on the Eaton (with the KB is it now off) . Honestly I consider the spacer just like my powercooler and TB and Heat exchanger . It is just a piece of the overall puzzle. Not any one of those items will give you SOP , but together they help the L run better overall.
