How much oil in IC

How much oil in IC would an 03 or 04 Lightning have after 5000 miles of normal street driving? Is it easily removed? I need to start planning maintenance.

Maybe none..... very little if any at 5k on a 03-04...check it. If its a concern stick a separator on at 20 bucks or so and catch what maybe getting into your plenum. Pull the line to the back of the plenum and see if there is oil residue and Pull the intake boot off and look at the T/B.

03-04 stock dont seem to have the problem to the extent eailier years do.

earlier year models see the problem and its gets worse with mods.... Facts aside.... There are trucks modded to approx 400/500 that have never done anything about it and left the pcv stock and have 60K miles on them and oil all over the intake and run consistent low 12's..... What improvement these trucks may have in power with a clean intercooler and a improved octane rating is only a guess ...that could be wrong.

you can do some searches....and get a ton of information and decide whats accurate and whats product pushing...

Here is my '03 @ ~6500 miles

The truck was mostly stock up until that point.

Sharpshooter, my monitor is old with low resolution. In the picture is that oil on the engine or the color of the metal?

The PCV system on the '03-'04 trucks is no different than any earlier year L.

I just had my intercooler out at approx. 13K miles and there was oil sitting in the bottom of my lower intake, and oil running out my throttle body.

yes, my truck too runs low 12's, but that doesn't make me any happier when I take off my intake boot and oil drips out of my throttle body.

an "oil seperator" is not an acceptable fix to me. IMHO it's a bandaid.

I'd love to retain a functioning PCV system for crankcase scavenging (HP) reasons, but I don't know if it's worth the trouble.

I considered trying that guy's fix from over on nloc.net, but I'm not gonna pay $200 bucks for a $12 dollar part. that's as bad as a $25 "boost bypass"

Until somebody comes up with or I figure out something better, I'm seriously considering ditching the pcv alltogether and just running a breather cap on each valve cover on the new motor.

later,
chris

Here's my 02 @ 12K of Fun with lots of Mods, Nitrous, and Racing

YEP SPOTLESS YA BABY
Didn't even touch it during the S/C Swap
No Seperators, Breathers, dimes, or plugged lines

Lightning Enterprise PCV System
http://lightning-enterprise.com/pcv.html

However I did sill have oil in the Upper manifold
and inside of the S/C Manifold opening.
BUT IT SEEMS TO NOT GET TO THE INTERCOOLER ???

Inside view of Upper manifold, it has a light oil coating

From a distance, it looks worse than it is.
My guess is ORIGINALLY BEFORE I INSTALLED THE PCV FIX
it was gettign oil in the intercooler, but as the close up above clearly shows. Now it's dry as a whistle and only has some old staining.

Chris ..one of our respected tuners said that there was a small change to the 03-04 pcv during a conversation I had with him and I didnt ask what they were.... he said that 03-04 didnt seem to have the problem as bad as earlier models....but after seeing the pic by Sharpshooter ...It dosent look like the effects of that "small change" is consistant from truck to truck.......

Again proven measurable ill effects from the oil bath in the intake? we know its not helping performance and it should be increasing the risk of detonation.....but when a rod gets tossed through the block nobody is blaming the oil laden fuel/air...........

It looks like another proven method of keeping the oil out is just to burn it up with nitrous

I paid the money ( a little more that a 12 dollar part) and made a slight modification with a check vlave so that the full stock system is in affect..

Thumbs up

I also have the "Swanson" kit! No more oil in the intake even after about 10K miles!
