Spark Plugs......HELP!!!

Looking to see if anyone has any tips or advice when changing the spark plugs in the lightnings? I bought a set of NGK Iridium Spark Plugs and going to gap them at .038. Took a look at where they're located and it doesn't look like it's an easy job. Any help would be great guys.....thanks!

This has been covered SOOO many times...

Do a SEARCH and you'll find lotsa ugly stories. Chuck is da man and he has a website explaining the procedure and tools required. Do yourself a favor and get the Sears 7mm swivel socket for the back two coil holddown bolts in the driver's side.

Tools needed. A 1/4" drive 7mm swivel socket can be used instead of the little 1/4" breaker bar.

The best tip is to slip the socket and the extension onto the 7MM
and then position the ratchet(if you can use alot of extensions to rise above the plenum then do it) and you will be able to get all but the 3rd back on drivers side if I remmember correctly without a swivel, break it loose and turn out with your fingers...

do the same for the plugs I did not use a swivel for the plugs.... I think I used about a 4"or 6" extension with the deep socket and slide it onto the plug and then position the ratchet to where I could break the plug lose and you wont need a mile of extensions.... some I had room to add another extension to make it easier, then disconnect the ratchet and turn out with your fingers.... It takes about an hour.

quicker if I hurry....an hour taking my time.
Yes dont over complicate it. You'll be surprised at how you can fish in the socket or wobble socket from the top straight down ..no swivel. Fact: the 7MM bolts 99% of the time just need to be broke free and then will easily turn out quickly by hand. I forgot to add but others in this thread have not ...and that is have a couple of telescoping magnets around for the bolts ....when you get the 7MM threaded out remove the socket and remove it with a magnet., install it with a magnet also and it will go quicker.

All the plugs are at an angle so gently slide the socket and extension into the hole and wiggle it and make sure your on it and then attach your ratchet...... you can make the extensions end where you want and where you can break the plug loose and then turn out with you fingers ....same thing going back in !!!!

no ratchet do it with your fingers........then tighten with a ratchet.
