Another Apten Post

Now that everyone is getting their Aptens back on, I see that there are alot of dino test, however, has anyone ever track tested them, and if so how much of an improvement did you see.

I asked this a week or 2 ago and no one seems to have been to the track yet with a ported blower.

Hopefully someone has since been...

Well...as a matter of fact, I have .

I hit Ennis Friday night.....and am proud to say...got kicked out. I ran a 12.04 on my first pass and my second was like a 11.96.
It was warm out and the air was wet. We had about 12 or so guys out there(TALON group) and everyone was a steady 3 tenths off their bests. So doing some basic math....theoretically....I would have been hitting around 11.55-11.6 if the air and temps had of been like the day I did my 11.81 befor the Apten.

Saturday, I hit Hallsville and ran 3 passes all 11.91-11.96. The temp was around 68-70 and all four of us were again about 3 tenths off our bests...so again the theoretical math works out about the same. My supercharger also remained much cooler than in previous 70 degree conditions. I don't have the exact how much cooler, but the hand method said cooler.

a little quote

Cooling Effects

Cooler intake air is denser and contain more oxygen atoms per cubic foot. So cooler air will allow more fuel to be burned and intern make more power. A 10 degree drop in temperature can add 1 to 1.5% power to an engine. Nitrous oxide boils at -129°F and it will begin to boil as soon as it is injected. This can cause a 80° or so drop in manifold air temperature. Now if we are dealing with say a 400 hp engine, we can see well over 30 hp gained from the cooling effect alone. This cooling effect also helps the engine deal with detonation. END QUOTE

Air temp, and track conditions play such a huge part in our ET's,
I think due to the Nitrous, WHENEVER I FINALLY get to make a pass (now that they took my track away, #&!&#@*#!*#)
it will be a TRUE example of the results. (EXAMPLE: since I'm cooling the IAT @80', a diff of 10-15 degrees outside air temp, doesn't play as large a part anymore)
If there's one thing about Nitrous, it's the consistancy of it's performance. No matter what the outside temp is, I'm still spraying the same -129' zub zero temp down the old pike, which results in very consistant ET's, "under pretty much any conditions"
You read above, the diff between 15 degrees, would only effect 1.5 % of my power, where a NON NITROUS L would stand to loose prob a good 10-15% of it's power.

Dont you think V should drive to LI, and trailer my L to a nice track so we can do some true test and tuning ???
(of course I'll drive shotgun and prepair myself for the testing

Tracks here open up "Saturdays only" next month.
I should be able to have results around mid March.

It looks like you have done your homework, so yes I do think V should do this for you. Furthermore, Gator should pay for all the gas as his contribution. Heck, I am so inspired, I am thinking about sending a check to cover the track costs.

All kidding aside.....the consistency of nitrous is indisputable. It used to frustrate the crap out of me, loosing as much as a half second due to temps. Now I just accept it.

I have wondered if using just a 25 shot for it's cooling effects could help to keep consistant numbers without putting alot of additional stress on the rods. I may do this before it's over with.
