Leaky Head Gasket

I went and did some 1/4 mile runs with the G-tech yesterday with a friend. He did his first, he did 2 runs back to back with no cool down. When he came back he had a burning rubber/oil smell coming from his motor.

Then I did mine, just like him, I did mine back to back. When I got done I had the same smell, but I had smoke coming from the passenger side of the motor.

I did a search, and found that there are 2 possible causes for the smell; belt slippage or passenger side head gasket.

If mine is the head gasket, do you think my mods caused the problem, or is it something that ford did?

I ran the truck some more last night after it cooled down, and it seemed to run fine, no smells or smoke.

Not an expert, but I would say if you smelt burning rubber it was your belt slipping as there is nothing, at least nothing I can think of, as far as a leaky head gasket that would smell like rubber.

Can a leaky head gasket be detected by a compression test?

If it’s the problem that is common with these trucks would it be the rear passenger cylinder?

Do I have a chance with a warranty repair?

The truck seems to run fine other than when I do a couple 0-105 mph blasts. My 1/4 tests with the G-tech were way lower than I expected.

Sounds like a leaky head gasket and yes back passenger side is were mine was leaking.

Just take a look at the idler arm , below the upper pulley for belt dust. If there is none then it might be the gasket.

Good luck either way.

If it was smoking, I would go with an oil leak. Good luck man.

What did you do about it?

Did you run it like that before you got your built motor? or Did you have it fixed?

Thanks

I had it for about 6 months. I knew I was getting a built motor and it was not that bad. Never got to the point of smoke under the hood , but you could tell when it was on the lift.
