my Lightning has been NEUTERED! (pic)

hi everyone.

I got my blower back from apten a few days ago. I bolted it on last night so I could drive the truck to the dealership to get it ready to pull the old motor out. unfortunately I forgot to bring home the s/c tensioner so I couldn't install the blower belt!

so I had to drive to work today in my NON SUPERCHARGED LIGHTNING!

how lame.

the jdm exhaust is still loud, but the poor thing just can't back it up. I'm glad nobody tried to race me during my commute.

here's a pic...

It's probably better this way, I know if I had the S/C working I'd have wanted to try out the new apten port job. with my luck lately, I'd have blown my stock motor and made it unsellable. also, the truck has pretty much been in storage since back in November or so. this certainly kept me from romping on it too much on her first trip out of the garage in '04.

later,
chris

yup.

actually, the blower still spins...

if you were to go out to your truck right now and remove the blower belt then start the engine, the blower doesn't turn. but if you reach over and turn the throttle plate, you'll see the blower start spinning "magically"!

the air still flows through it just fine. however, it makes the truck slow as crap without the S/C.

chris

ha, I was waiting for somebody to notice that.

actually, though, no it's not polished.

while apten had it apart I had them send it to the polisher.

the guy stripped off the factory powdercoat and then did the preliminary sanding. He didn't go all the way to the polishing steps, but did smooth the case down nicely.

the purpose?

I'm having the blower painted Sonic Blue next week. I wanted the paint to have a nice gloss and I wasn't sure it would achieve the desired result with the rough factory finish.

we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

later,
chris

Thats gonna Look AWESOME Chris
Originally I was set on getting a Sonic Blue Lightning and was going to paint the blower Sonic Blue like the Ranger prototype that SVT built.
But when it was time for me to buy the dealer sold the Sonic Blue Lightning 2 hours before I called.
As the dealer was talking to me on the phone, they were unloading a RED Lightning and so I told him to hold it till I could get there (about a 2 hour drive).
Funny how things work out
