The improved version has 9 threads, the old crappy FU from Ford heads have a plug spitting 4.

you can also look through the fender well and check the dates printed in ink on the side of the head.
like this:
do a search under my screen name, but I believe that they started making the updated heads around November 12th or 17th or sometime like that.
if the heads in question were cast after that date, you should be ok.
