You should save a little more and get the Pro-M and some 55# injectors. You'll thank yourself for waiting.

I took the route of heavy mods knowing that one day I would build a bullet proof lower. And 4500 miles (9 months) later I am content with this decision. I believe whole heartedly that your tune has everything to do with whether your stock block (like mine) can hold up to the capabilities of the KB. Mind you I am only at 16lbs of boost and based on all of my research I am at the limit of blowing our weak link rods.

There are too many mods to list, but the basic picture is KB, revolutions single file, 16lbs boost, 93 octane, 14 degrees timing (stock is 12), 5200 shift point (just like stock), a/f is hot out of the gate at 14, but she drops immediately to 12 and levels at 12.1 for the higher rpms, I run Beru S1K's (they have been flawless for 3000 miles) I am pumping out 496/562 at the rear.

I haven't run the 1/4 yet, but I have turned a 7.84 at 88.95 mph in the eighth and the only weak link is my 60ft times. Recently I am told that a torque converter with drop my 60's into the 1.60 range and yeild a 11 run in the quarter. Yeah you guessed my next mod.

I am in no way gentle with my L. I bought her for one reason, the need to speed, that's it - so know that I drive her hard and she has been flawless for the last few 1000 miles. When the day comes that I have the cash for the lower then I will churn my KB up in the 20's and really have some fun. But don't kid yourself the lower done properly is going to cost you some cash and if you don't have a s/c that can maximize your potential - what's the point of having the lower done. (just my opinion of course)

I haven't regretted one minute of the KB and strongly recommend it.

i was wondering the same thing before i did my KB swap...i was soo nervous that my stock internals wouldnt hold up at all...but i did my research and talked with some pros...and they said it is very much possible....my mods are KB(making 15psi),90mm mass air, 12''Filter, NGK br7's, & a Single Blade T/B, all tuned consevatively with a Diablo Chip, it made 431rwhp on a mustang Dyno with the A/F right about 11.5 and to this day i agree that its not ALL about your boost levels, its about your tune! the KB is said to be more effiecent the the Eaton...so with the correct boost levels and tune you should be fine! and you will defently LOVE IT!!

i also just orderd my long tubes and full exhaust which will drop my boost down 1-2lbs..but give me a some nice power gains

Check out the March issue of MM&FF and you will see a Lightning shootout and in that shootout, you will see Nuno aka Thunderstrucks bone stock internal, KB equipped truck run in the 11.50's, he has also run in the 11.40's since that shootout with no problems. Several Lightnings have run in the mid 11's with KB's and stock internals with no problems, so I'd say with a safe tune and a smart driver, bolting on a KB is a no brainer.
