Changing gears with out a chip?

Is there a way to change the gears and have the speedo correctly display the speed? I have a 2000 and went from the stock 3:55's to the 01 3:73's. My speedo is correct now with my chip, but if I take the chip out the speedo is off, do I have to have a Ford dealership re-program the computer?

Thanks for any help

John

I did the exact same thing that you are doing and I had my buddy at the dealership reprogram the computer. You either have to bring it there, or know someone that has the dealership software.

MANY TUNERS CAN JUST REFLASH THE COMPUTER

(sorry caps lock)

Many tuners can reflash the computer accounting for the mods and gear changes.
