Look what came in the car wash today.
The new Chevy SSR came in for a car wash today. How many times have you guys seen that new chevy commercial with all the new cars driving up onto that delivery truck. They play it every other commercial break here. It was nice to see one in person. But I think its a wierd looking truck. I saw it for the first time in person the other day at the car show. It's weird to see a convertable in a truck. And why is it so expensive? The guy said he paid like $45,000. Why is it so much? It isnt quick like the Lightning, what makes it worth all those pennies? What do you guys think of the SSR?

I like it - everything but the front end. That looks like *****. (reminds me of Dodges - nice looks, but fughly front ends)
Performance on them isn't horrible - but not worth the 45k. It's just a novelty for now. Just like those d@mn PT Cruisers were when they came out - everyone HAD to get one

they are made right here in Lansing, Michigan.
I can take a picture of a few hundred COVERED in snow if you'd like.
I can only imagine how ROCK CHIPS from cars ahead of them will look on that painted front end.

I think the SSR is decent-looking vehicle. But as far as I'm concerned, that's all it has going for it. Negative include:
- No performance. 0-60 in around 7 seconds? My 1990 Probe GT hit 60 in 6.8 seconds stock, 6.4 with a slight bump in boost. And of course, the later Gen 2 Ls can do it in 5.2.
- It's useless as a truck. I think its load capacity is 600 lbs. My wife's 2001 Sport Trac can carry 1,200 lbs, and my '03 L can carry 1,400 lbs.
- It's a GM product. Ford isn't perfect, but quality definitely ain't Job 1 at GM.
- Given all its other shortcomings, the SSR is grossly overpriced. Some people will pay any price just to have the latest fad, no matter how impractical, and they seem to be the target audience here.
I followed a black one the other day. Didn't know for sure what it was until it made a left turn. I had to go straight. It looked and sounded great in person.
Doesn't look like full sized people would be very comfortable in it.
That roof really tapers in.
I think our L is more functional and versatile. We already know we are faster.
It is, how should I say, Cute! In a feminine sort of way. Yeah thats it, a chicks truck.

its interesting, i don't think 45 k interesting, but then again its not all that bad. Remeber most people don't look at performance as their prime appeal in a vehicle. For 45k you get a very unique truck that has some functionality while remaining "trendy" and you also have a convertable, which is rare. Also convertablies always cost a lot, hence a hefty tag. But what is it? A hardtop convertable?
