How much HP is too much on stock engine?

here are my current mods that add up to 388hp:

4lb
PSP Chip
90 Mass air
JLP Ram Air Kit
Denso IT20
Flowmaster Catback Exhaust

Here are the mods I plan on doing in the very near future:
Ported Eaton
FTVB
Single Blade Throttle Body
EFan

I figure after all this is complete, I would be around 433rwhp....and then get the chip reburned, so I may even be close to 440hp if Sal can hook me up!!!!

anyway, is this too much for a stock engine? I cannot afford $10k to build the bottom end or anything....

your thoughts?

Danger!

If you can't afford a rebuild, stop.

People have blown stock engines. Since you've nuked your warranty, you should be very careful.

That being said, I had 409rwhp on my street program with a 2lb pulley, and I've upgraded plenty since then, and my stock block is still fine.

Yup

About $11K to rebuild it right...

$3k in block
$2K in heads
$1K in cams
$3K new blower
$2K install

Coldie

With 430 and slicks/traction bars, I easily ran 12.80 That's with 20" wheel in front, full curb weight and a bad driver (me).

I think you won't be in the 11s without a great driver and a perfect day...

Note that my 430 was a bit peakier than most because it was with a 2lb pulley, so you should be a little better than that.

Just wondering, wouldn't it be less if he reuse the heads? Also, wouldn't be possible to reuse the block if it had no damage if it blew.

Just a built short block should come in well under 5K. Labor included.

Ah the old mighty Million Dollar Question
How much is too much ????????????????????
Many have found out the hard way
Some are border line Now Thats me

But for me, the bigger question is, why does it have to blow ?
Ok everything has it's limits, but with proper care, proper maintenence, proper tune, proper plugs, AND A LOT OF TIMING,
I don't see why consistant mid 11's isn't acheivable.
Unfortunatly everything comes back to our Rods, and they simply
won't hold up for yrs taken that abuse.

Cecil last yr was thee most I ever raced in one day (5 passes)
And one was V driving it like a Frigging Girlie, (12.7) and another
I got off it twice due to violent hopping and ended up shutting it down and coasted a third of the track to a 12.2 ET @ 100MPH, hehehehehe.

Usually I make 2 Passes THE MOST in one day, I only made one at English Town, and this yr will prob stick with only 1 pass per
event, and only race it maybe twice "if that" ONCE TO WHOOP GATORS BUTT OF COURSE.

I refuse AND DON'T HAVE THE MONEY to go for the 10-15K Motor
right now. Once you add a KB and extra Needed Mods to it, you can go 15K no prob. So I truly need to keep mine together a while longer. AS much as I hate to do it, "and even think it", I may just enjoy owning a really fast street Lightning and only put it through the major stress "that blows a Motor" very few times for now on in.
WHY NOT, I ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT CAN DO
Where do I realy wan't to go with this ??? if I wanted a full all out drag / street beast, I'd start with a Cobra or something much lighter, and where parts are a dime a dozen.

I have an '03 with 4500 miles, KB, 16lbs boost, 14 degrees timing, a/f hot out of the gate in the 14's immediately dropping and leveling at 12.1, shift point 5200, Beru S1K's, and too many mods to list - she is holding strong at 496 hp 562 torque all with a stock block - so far so good!

Here's hoping she will hold together. My very first 1/8th mile passes last week show me in the very low 12's, but with the addition of a torque converter I should (fingers crossed) be in the high 11's.

D-Day
