Question Alpine XM install questions

OK guys I am taking the plunge I allready have the 9813 head unit and a 6 disk CD changer in the Console

I just ordered a Alpine TUA-T020XM XM Satellite Radio Tuner, and Terk XM3 antenna. They should be here next week, so I figured I would try to figure out what to do before they arrive.

1) where did you mount the tuner
2) where do you tap in to power the unit
3) Since I allready have a AI Net cable going into the head unit, can I use that cable to piggy back the cable to the XM tuner?
4) whats the best way to mount the antenna

I am a little concerned about the antenna since I have a aftermarket lexan window in the back. So any advice about how to route the wire through the 3rd brake light would be great.

Thanks in advance, and feel free to post any pictures you have, and any advice on where to route the wires, and get power from

Thanks

hehe I paid about $250 for it too

If you want one of those units you better act fast as Alpine isn't going to make any more of them. Looks Like XM is going to go for a single manufacture of the tuner, and you will have to get a addaptor to hook it up to what ever head unit you choose.

I wanted to make sure I got a unit that had Alpine AI Net.

Well not to make you guys sick but Crutchfield had the TUA-T020XM reciever in a kit with the FM modulator and wiring on sale awhile back for 99.00. I emailed and asked if it was the same receiver that was needed to add to a XM radio ready Alpine tuner and they told me it was so I snatched a kit up. The tuner alone on another page was 249.00 so it was a very good deal. To make you even sicker I sold the FM tuner part, remote and the extra wires for 45.00 on Ebay and my final cost was 55.00. This is running to a 7875 unit at the moment till I can my X-Mas gift of also the 9813 installed. Great HU to replace another great HU unit with. Deal was wife gets my old one when the new one goes in so I agreed to pick it out as my gift

Although mine isnt in a Lightning I did it the following way
I mounted my receiver under the drivers seat towards the front where I can still mount another amp under there if I need to. I ran power from the power block I installed for the amps and ran the trigger wire to the head unit. The unit uses the output AI connector to run to the radio and has another AI input connector on it. You can piggy back the units to CD changers and etc but not sure if they need to be in a certain order. I`ll check the book and see and post answer later.
As for antenna on mine its mounted above the 3 rd brake light and wires run down into light into cab. It then runs behind trim panels and under seat to receiver. Great set-up you will truly enjoy

I saw the tuner mounted to the left of the glove box...there is a gap..turn it sideways and it fits just right...2 screws and you're in business...

Don,

I mounted my pioneer tuner under the pass seat. It fit real nice there, however the glovebox thing sounds good too. If you want the stealth look and dont wanna see the ant., hide in under the plastic black part at the top of the hood under the wipers. Theres a couple of pieces of metal under there that it will hold onto. I remember when I did mine, a supercrew guy did a nice write up on it and thats were I got the idea from. Try a search. Hope you like XM better then I do. Just my opinion, but when they play a song, its one you never heard before, or you hear it ALL the time! Gets real anoying. Good luck!

I paid 150 for my tuner and 50 for my antenna.

TAKE THAT ANTENNA BACK, TRUST ME. get the constellation one I have. it is a low profile antenna that is only like 8mm tall.

Here is where I installed mine. Under my Expy console.

Let me know if you want some model numbers and whatnot for the antenna. I'll get it out to whoever wants it.

Alpine Xm install questions

Actually Alpine is not going to make the external tuner anymore because they have a new head unit. The CDA-9820XM is Alpine's all-in-one CD/AM/FM/XM receiver that makes it easier for users to enjoy XM's Satellite Radio by simply installing a new XM Micro antenna (sold separately). There is no need to purchase a separate XM tuner box. This unit had a retail price of $341.00, but I have found it on a website for $279.00.

Don -

Put the tuner to the right of the glove box, turned on it's side. My Alpine fits in there perfectly.

Tie the power to the unit to the yellow "Constant On" that your 9813 is using. There is a convenient ground right behind the passenger kick panel.

The XM tuner has "In" and "Out" AI Net ports. That is how you add it to the mix.

As far as the antenna, put it under your wiper cowl and forget the roof mount. It works great and is a 10 minute install to boot. I am the ex-SuperCrew guy who did the pics in the thread mentioned above.

I get to re-install all of my stuff in my new Lightning this weekend...

Good luck.
