not sure...I've been told that if a hard part breaks in the tranny, the convertor will fill with metal, and need to be replaced.

I have a converter

I have a converter out of a E4OD, I dunno if it would work in yours, but it is stock and only has about 30k on it. I put in a high stall so I do not need it anymore. E-mail me at alschmid@bellsouth.net if you want it, I need to get rid of it.

you can flush out a converter, any good trans shop should probably have a machine specifically made to do this. probably no need to buy ANOTHER converter.

just my .02

later,

Thje one from the E4OD won't work, it has 4 bolts, the L has a 6 bolt converter, which is the stock one from a 6.8L v-10 Superduty if you want to check the local junkyards, they can be found for less than $100. You can't get the contamination out by flushing, but a good tranny shop can cut it open and clean it, it's not a big deal if you have the equipment. If you want to get a higher stall on the cheap, you can get a converter from a Navigator, cut off the coverplate and put a billet cover on it with 6 bolts. It has all furnace brazed internals, a torrington bearing on the turbine hub (same as the stock one has in the L), and you can easily add the torrington bearing on the reactor for less than $20 (if you can't find the parts let me know, I have them) which the Ls built after Mar of 03 have already, and it'll stall around 300 higher than stock. You do give up the triple disc lockup, but I personally don't think it's an issue if you upgrade the clutch material, all things a good shop can do, pretty straightforward. The Navi converter is about $200, the billet cover is gonna run about 200 more, and labor might be another bill. Not worth doing in and of itself, but if you need a new converter and don't want to drop a lot of cash for a higher stall, it's not much more than replacing it with a stock one. Just an idea.

1L7Z-7902-BA navi converter
Billet cover is from Sonnax, any shop can get them

Last week at the dyno one of the guys from LOLA had an Art Carr 2400. He had problems dynoing it...it was real loose..

He was upset and said he planned to get rid of it...Not that I'm very knowledgable on Convertors..

REDSVT150 can hook you up with this guy...They both post on the NLOC board.
