I just don't understand

I know I'm just a 1%er but why don't more people like the twisties? My son, in his 03 Mach, Edward in his L, Nathan in his STI and I in my L, did The Driver's Edge driving school this last weekend at Motor Sport Ranch. There is no way to have more fun with your clothes on! MSR is a very technical track with mostly off camber turns. We ran it backwards (clockwise). It was the first time I have had the L on race rubber and I can tell you it was a rocket! I just love having a guy look out his 50 to 70 thousand dollar car and see a mirror full of fire breathing Ford truck! I know most of you could care less but I'm telling you running a road course is the *****z. Hopefully I will be back at MSR in April and then another school in Oct. at Texas World Speedway. About three or four events a year is all I can hope to do and stay married with all the other things I'm into.

I am an avid road course racer. My Camaro was built for road course racing. I sold it and never went to the road course with my L for 1 very simple reason. With my mods it would be too hard on my Motor and tranny to road course. I have thought of going back to stock to become a 1%er but I just couldnt do without running mid to low 12's. I am working hard on buying something to able able to road race but with the wedding and house its gonna have to wait

I'm with you man. I love the twisties. I drove HWY 20 (nice windy road with some off camber stuff) to meet my brother. I couldn't believe how fast I could run that road in the L. When I got to the straight part I had to set my cruise control because 60 MPH felt like I was crawling. I have one road coarse sorta near by called Thunder Hill. I can't wait to hook up on a track event there.

Do they let 'private/non-professional racers' like you or I on that track to race every now and again? I've been there for a couple events and that place is awesome. I would love to get a chance to run my new L out there if they allowed it.

They sure do. I was invited to a track event with the Shelby club. They rented the track. During the lunch break they announced that anyone that wanted to take their cars out for parade laps during the break was OK. I had just bought a '93 Vette the day before. Man was I stoked. There I was in my new Vette cruising around Thunder Hill. They had a 60 MPH speed limit. That's really slow in the straights, but pretty fun through the tight twisties. Your L should be in within the next week.

Should be able to do it e-town this year I think. I think this is the year they will have there road cousre open.

Try that same thing on a motorcycle and you will really know what fun and adrenaline are! (see my avatar, that's me)

The top speed on my superbike (which is very attainable on tracks like Daytona) is over 180

I have a mid 12 second truck and have no problems on the road course at all. I even ran my chip on the towing setting for the whole event. I did add the F/T trans. cooler and the tranny temps never got over 170. My truck has the Roush kit, Pan-hard bar, lift bars, Hellwig aint sway bars, and TCE big brake kit. The Hellwig bars make a huge difference. Edward has the same handling mods as I but without the Hellwig bars. My truck stays much flatter in the turns. I would also like to get into road racing.....maybe in a spec racer Ford. http://www.hagermanracengineering.com/srf.html

Doug, I thought the R1's were ok until Bobby Archer came by my pit and told me to get them off and put the Hoosier's on. I was going to run the R1's until I saw cord. I was having trouble getting off the turns and my instructor thought I was getting into the gas to hard, to fast. Bobby said he thought I would take 5-6 seconds off my lap times with the Hoosier's. I put the Housiers on and ran the last two sessions. It was incredible! Bobby told me the R1's were a great tire but that as old as they are they would be very hard. The tire guy had trouble getting them off the rims they were so hard. In my last two sessions (on the Hoosier's) I was going through Buzzard neck at over 100 mph! Remember we were running the track backwards. There is nothing in the world like going through a turn at over 100 MPH stearing the truck with your right foot. I love it! There is nothing like the L. After eight run sessions I was not passed once . Then we loaded my son's Mach 1 on the trailer and pulled it home with the L. How many other vehicles could do that?

Rob, I'll get the pics and video up as soon as I can. My son shot the video from the inside of his Mach. You will see he is in second and my L just keeps getting smaller and smaller!
