Ah the youth......

I too once was young (not that long ago either!). But back then it was a mid 80s GN or IROC that I wanted really bad.

Don't take my response with offence, it's truely not ment in that mannor. But I learned the hard way that getting my education first was the **EASIER** route to get the good toys like a Lightning.

If your anything like I was and would'nt listen to older guys? then try to find yourself a clean Gen 1. Thier value is close to bottoming out. So that way you won't loose too much when you decide to change in a few years / months.

Best regards, Rich

the reason i want one is becouse im iterested in mechanics and performance stuff. i have a toyota sr5 4x4 but i dont like to do stuff to it engine wise becouse most jap car parts are so exspensive and i already have a 3inch. lift and 32s on it.

I have a gen 1... Insurance isn't high at all. It's listed as just an f150. Insurance is actually cheaper for my truck than it was for my mustang.

there are plenty of Gen 1s out there in good shape for cheap, You will have to pay a little more for one that's perfect body/paint wise and runs strong. It depends on if you want a project, or if you want a daily driver....

They run 15s stock. You can make anything fast if you got the $$$.

I am not sure if u will like this, but if u are looking for a cheap truck that is realatively quick why dont u look at the early 90's GMC Syclone. Its not a full size pick up but it does have a turbo charged 4.3 v6 with all wheel drive. Just an idea.

LOL , going after Honda Del Sols with a gen1 Lightning? Talk about a weird race!

That Del Sol will probably smoke any stock/slightly modified gen1 off the line - I used to have one (1.7L VTEC). Those things are quick from 0-60, but are gutless thereafter. It also probably weighs about 1/3 (or less) of what a gen1 Lightning weighs... You probably wouldn't want to chase him into a autocross either, !

You can find a decent 1st Gen. for pretty cheap. I wouldn't worry about perfect paint and body because odds are, it'll get messed up anyway....(I'm only a year older than you). I hope you join us soon

Here is a pic of my gen 1

I had it running 12.0's last season and hopefully this season will be low 11's or high 10's. But that is like $15,000 later after the purchase price.

you can find a nice gen 1 for $6-7000.00 or a mint one for like $9000.00.
buy one and let the mods begin
