Already got the SES Light...

I was driving home yesterday, I was coming around a corner into a long straight stretch, ready to go WOT, and right before I could, the dreaded SES light came on.

Anyone got any ideas on what I could check out. It stays on, doesnt blink, and I checked the stuff in the manual; gas cap, gas, and all that jazz.

I am full on all my fluids, except I need to add some coolant. Can low coolant turn on the SES light?

Go to an autozone or any other place and pull the code and find out exactly what it is.

Do you have any mods?

Airintake, 160 stat? Anything?

No, not a single performance mod yet.

BTW, anyone know who sells the Gold antifreeze. I checked in town, but nobody has it. Surely Autozone or WalMart will have some.

It's Motorcraft Gold from your dealer

You have a new truck, no mods and a warranty.. Don't fool with it, just take it to the dealer. Could just be a loose gas cap caused the SES light or a sensor gone bad, etc.. Dealer will hook up to the OBD II port and in seconds have the answer. Warranty will cover fix of the problem. Do not go to AutoZone, makes no sense if you have a warranty and no mods..

If you have no mods then just take it to the dealer.. it could be anything from a loose gas cap to a faulty sensor

Think its the coolant, I had already gone to Autozone before I checked back here. They hooked up their computer and it said something about the coolant. Gonna go fill her up and I'll let y'all know.

Can I make a recommendation. Hope you take my advice..

Call the dealership up and ask for an appointment. Tell them you want to come in when they first open the Service Dept. in the morning and you want to wait for the vehicle while they do the work. Tell them you don't mind waiting as long as necessary and no you do not want a ride to home but will wait!. They may tell you that you will have to wait a day or so before they can get you that appointment but say ok..

The problem you have with your L will be a quick fix as it probably is a sensor gone bad. Your oil change will only take a few minutes. NOT leaving your vehicle at a dealership unless absolutely necessary is the SMART way to do things. Vehicles many times are damaged while sitting around a dealership, mechanics like to test drive your fast ride and such.. IF you are there watching over things so to speak less can happen period.
Sitting in a dealership show room looking at the cute office staff for an hour or so ain't so bad anyway.. 8-)

The only problem I have with that is I would have to lose time off from work. I figure if they go joyriding in my truck and I find out or find anything wrong with it, then I can go 'APE SHlT' on their ***

Ya, I think you are right, just dont know if I should take off work. Actually, i might just take a day off this week to go apply for my apprenticeship so I could get the L checked out before I go I guess.
