Painting interior pieces...?

Hey, guys, I know this probably gets covered a million times, but I searched, and there were so many post that I got tired of looking without finding what I needed. I'm sure it's there I just overlooked it...

I would just like some advice on what you guys that have painted your interiors used. I'm going to be starting the interior in my Belvedere soon, and I'm going for a custom look (not too mention original pieces are just too hard to find, and several of my pieces are cracked and need repair).
Instead of going back with chrome accents in the interior I'm going to paint the dash, rear seat trim and quarter panel trim matte black then all the chrome accents I will paint gloss black. I'm just curious what materials (mostly sandpaper grits, etc) and paints you recommend. I need something of course that looks good, but will be very durable in a matte finish... BTW all metal pieces I plan to have powder coated, so those aren't an issure here...

Thanks..!

i used dupli-color vinyl and fabric color, it worked great. i used the medium gray (VS-8), so i cant say how the black looks, but the spray cans were easy to use and the paint is pretty tough...it still gets some scratches if you hit it hard enough.

before i tried that i went to sherman williams and had them match paint for me to the darker of the two colors in my interior...the paint was good quality, but slightly off in color, thats why i went with dupi-color. im sure sherman williams could get you some good black paint though....only downside is that you have to spary it with a gun, they cant put it in an aerosol can

good luck

Hmmm... might be an excuse to finally buy a paint gun... I've been thinking about getting one for quite awhile. Have been tempted to try my hand at body work too, but figure I'll leave that and body paint to the guys with talent...

Any good ideas of cleaners/degreasers if I should decide not to sand the trim smooth...?

I would recomend scuffing them up with Gray Scotchbrite pads, wipe down with acetone and use SEM interior paint. IT does need to be sprayed with a gun but can be custom mixed if necesary. The stuff is bullet proof if put on correctly. They also sell a product for adhesion promoting between the paint and plastic. All these products can be found at any automotive paint store.
